This month we decided to look at healing from a new perspective - where it actually begins. In the beginning there was man and he was without sickness. The bible says sickness came as a result of sin and as I know understand it - being hurtful, abusive, angry, hostile, negative could be considered an act of war and sin against Humanity – the humanity that lives within you. There is much evidence to suggest that our thoughts and emotional state of being are directly related to our physical - mental - spiritual well being. Dr. Deepak Chopra’s book Quantum Healing took many of us on the greatest adventure of life – as we begin inward exploration for solutions & healing, we are now realizing we have more control over individual health and wellbeing. Yes, it’s true Virginia, positive affirmations really do work! We believe that all that positive mumbo jumbo < insert any successful / famous person here > speaks about is real? What they say to themselves in the mirror each morning and how they think throughout the day absolutely does make a difference. Science has not yet been able to complete a mathematical equation that would satisfy the inquiring mind and / or justify it’s existence. We cannot see “love” but we can see the results of it. Self-love, loving thoughts and actions change our very cellular structure. Again, we are waiting for science to confirm this – so it then becomes “truth,” but until that day comes, why not take a leap of faith!

You Attitude Determines Your Altitude"? How do you see the glass? Is the glass half full or half empty says a lot about a person’s personal attitude on life. It is this same attitude that when left unbridled can do damage to your very best friend  YOU! Negative thoughts begat negative results and vice versa. IF you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. When Shakespeare wrote “thinking makes it so,” he meant that our thoughts guide our actions and often become self-fulfilling prophecies. Few of us realize, however, the extent to which our thoughts can have effects beyond just our actions.

How does one turn a negative attitude into a positive one? The same way someone with a positive attitude maintains it. You need to eliminate the negative inputs, influences, and factors in your life and introduce positive ones. We’re bombarded with messages throughout the day and night. Some of them are good and some of them are just plain bad for you. We get "messages" from family, friends, co-workers, radio, newspaper, TV, music, the internet, billboards, books, magazines, and any number of other sources. If you don’t decide what goes into your head, then someone else will. You need to take control of what you feed your mind. |/QUOTE|

We’ve compiled a simple checklist for evaluating thoughts and seeing them for what they are : a conscious creative or destructive force of nature. Remember when you are doing this – honesty is crucial for change to occur.
1. Monitor your thoughts throughout the day. Starting with the first thought you have in the morning as you wake up to the last thought as you fall asleep. How does that thought make you feel? Happy / sad / neutral / scared / annoyed / anxious / frustrated / other
2. Identify & Analyze. Through identification of thought – you are able to determine what are negative self-scripts? (4) Before we can become self-affirming, we need to learn about the effects of negativism in our lives. Negative self-scripts are the:
* Negative beliefs you have about yourself and of which you remind yourself daily.
* Negative statements about yourself which sprinkle your every
3. Change is not Easy – but it is Possible. For those that have tendencies to be on the “glass is half empty” side – it is NOT a healthy way to be and you can change it! One thought at a time, like an alcoholic that takes his disease with him, but can learn to manage it to his advantage.
4. What thoughts do you need to change? Make a list of every “non loving” thought you have, toward yourself or others each day for a week.
5. Practice makes perfect. Each day is a new slate. New beginning. So you can get up and begin again … showing loving thoughts to yourself and others. If you hear your inner voice say something mean to yourself – stop right there and apologize! You do NOT want your body to listen to all the mean self talk.
6. Positive affirmations: You don’t really have to look in the mirror, but you are required to say and think nice things about “self!” Here is one example, however you don’t have to have a video to be able to say / think positive words and thoughts about your self, your body, your mind and your pure potential.

By now you should be getting the picture on how and why it is so important to keep your thoughts positive! To put that inner mean girl / boy into reform school while you teach them the right way to think and talk! Especially, when it is about SELF. It has been suggested that disease and sickness are PREVENTABLE conditions, based upon the known/unknown toxins that we currently are exposed to and/or ingest and the first step in changing your life is to recognize how important you send loving thoughts and affirmations to yourself. Your body does obey your commandments – so please think about what you are asking when you say or think self-destructive thoughts.
This is NOT going to be a "quick fix!" It has taken generations to pollute our planet and bodies to this nth degree and it will take time and effort to change. However, the cost of NOT taking personal responsibility is surely putting your faith in others who profit the most from sickness, disease, mental disorders, violence, crime and all things that go against our true nature. We can no longer turn our heads and pretend everything will just get better on its own. That is a fairy tale material - reality is we have free will and a thinking, comprehending brain. Albeit, most of what we have heard and processed our entire life was based upon LIES or FEAR - it is within each person to throw down the chains that bind and be re-born into the person / life / body you desire. Again, it takes effort to change and empowerment is not FREE, its a conscious choice to become an active participant in life versus a puppet. Where does healing begin and how do get there!

Healing Begins withIN! With each thought that is formed - our physical universe responds with great accuracy. You wish to die - viola, you get a disease, it is no mystery it is the science of the body.

Love this video that reflects very beautifully how important it is for US to truly begin to look deep within and SEE that beauty. It is always there, despite the lies and illusions. Go look in your mirror after you watch this and see if you don't SEE / FEEL / EXPERIENCE where love BEgins. And since we stand firm that "love really is the answer" we must then begin to love our SELF and healing begins with our individual forming thoughts. So, be kind to your body .. and tell it how much you LOVE it!

I am recently became overwhelmed by life and many individual things piling up at once. I went to a new, cutting edge, facility that Kaiser Permanente has. I am calling it an intensive mental health retreat. I learned so much about mental health that is new and evidenced based. Our brains can rewire. We can help ourselves to become less reactive and more reflective, for instance. Over time the brain does change. Beginning new habits and thinking differently are just one thing they teach. I was delighted to find Mindfulness and classes on accupuncture, yoga and Tai Chi, even a discussion on the subtle energy system of the human body! Things are a changin, folks. YAY! I will be starting a mental health discussion after Thanksgiving that will be a reflection of my new habits, thoughts about them, etc.. Blessed Be!

Sometimes it does feel like it hits us from all directions! And I truly hear / feel what you are saying. I feel I had a "shock" therapy of sorts. I think it would be a wonderful article to have in the magazine too! I pray that the "right"person will see the need and take the opportunity to investigate the science of yoga and how it works to "retrain" the body to a more balanced / natural state of BEing.

As far as I am concerned ... living does not even begin till be begin to take responsibility for our LIFE!  Our health is in our hands.  Each thought / action / choice we make.  What food we eat.  The water we drink.  The thoughts we have.  Before the body can get well, the mind must tell it ... to do just that and then assist the body in that journey through good decisions and a healthy lifestyle.
