Finally, a change of pace. Go-with-the-flow mode is so last week. This one begins with a thunderclap, a flash of lightning or a clink of chains unlocking and triggering and motivated action. We’re climbing -- or maybe shooting -- out of the water in which we’ve been swirling, swimming, surfing and, at times, drowning. And suddenly we know what we absolutely have to do. Actually implementing that knowledge, though, is another matter.
Maybe our time out of the wet is only long enough to look down/back at it and get a fresh perspective. Maybe we actually find a tiny island where we can briefly touch down. Either way we can shake off some of the sogginess and feel the warmth of the sun. We place our feet on the solid ground of sober habits, discernment and healthy boundaries. We can contemplate the week’s epiphanies, awakenings and liberations and sit a spell with the call to action we’re feeling so intensely. We may pull off some forward movement. The week’s biggest movement, however, is getting some distance on the water and all it entails.
The gear shift hits on Monday, with enough abrupt changes to cause whiplash. First, the watery, emotional flow escalates into another tidal wave as Mars, planet of action, teams with bigger-is-better Jupiter. Thereafter sociability takes a dive. What we want most is to clean up and dry off, when Venus trades Leo’s fun and drama-loving mode for the earth mother trappings of Virgo. Meanwhile, the Sun leaves the waters of Cancer for his warm, fiery, high-energy home of Leo and quickly sets up the summer’s first Full Moon in Aquarius. (A second comes late next month, at the end of the sign.)
This week’s Full Moon is in the very first degree of the sign, delivering a raw, unrefined and unsophisticated blast of Uranian electricity. It’s shocking, alarming, awakening and motivating. (Read more in my mooncast).
And that’s just on Monday.
As we come to grips with this Full Moon and all it unleashes, the week unfolds in one long void of course Moon after another. Moon voids are floaty, diffuse stretches between the Moon’s last major aspect and her entry into the next sign. They can feel as if nothing’s happening or nothing can happen, and even when they bristle with activity often little comes of it afterward. This week’s will bring to mind a cartoon character running wildly in place in the air, after a chunk of cliff fell out from under him.
There will be plenty to think about within those voids, and during the rest of the week as well. Cosmic messenger Mercury is now direct again and will return to noticeable movement by mid-week. Confusions will begin to clear up; information will come loose that explains much; misunderestandings may begin to unsnarl.
As the weekend approaches, Venus links up with the major players in the grand water trine, which is creating the rushing round-robin of emotional and other nonrational energy. She brings all that we value -- relationships, beauty, creativity, money -- within reach of the flow that is connecting Neptune (transcendence of physicality), Saturn (rules, order and the epitome of physicality) and Jupiter, whose golden touch heightens whatever he touches, for good or ill. Love may feel at a standstill, briefly, as opportunities appear to improve and solidify situations, to impose structure, obligations or responsibilities on arrangements, or perhaps to tighten them up in a big way. (Sounds like more news about legislating women’s health.) The positive spin on this process is optimizing. Go for that.
Monday: The Moon is void of course until 2:08 PM EDT. Inside the void, as per usual this year, significant action occurs for two bodies, Venus and the Sun, which move into Virgo and Leo respectively. The water emphasis is giving way (a tad) to discernment, separation and emphasis on the self. Minutes after the void end, the Aquarius Full Moon zaps us with shocks and insights and tilts of perspective; read more in my mooncast. The remainder of the day calls on us to adjust, to adjust, to adjust.
Tuesday: Today brings one of those welcome stretches when, at least for the moment, you are in the groove with all the shifts, twists, turmoil and upheaval. The new, the novel, the unfettered is what appeals to you now, and don’t be surprised if you push through an opening to get that -- or kick out a wall, even. With that radical impulse reverberating, the Moon goes void of course at 10:02 AM EDT until mid-afternoon tomorrow. A day and a half of sitting in Uranian possibilities is bound to yield far-reaching brainstorming. Even with the air crackling, it’s possible to sink your anchor in two directions at once: deep into solid ground, and far off in the ethers. (inspirational icon: a ship docking on the tips of the crescent moon in Terry Gilliam’s visually enchanting film The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.)
Wednesday: Dreams have the persistent discomfort of sand seeping into an oyster’s shell. The oyster emits a substance to encase the irritant and ultimately creates a pearl. Your counterpart is a nagging and growing incentive to do ... well, you may not consciously know what, as you waken, but you’ll gravitate to it regardless. Pushing through may wait till afternoon or later, or turn inward, because the Moon remains void of course until 2:23 PM EDT. The later hours heighten issues of love and romance (not necessarily the same thing). You may see God in another’s eyes or feel an all-consuming connection. The aftermath is grounding and affirming. Do you have writing materials near your bed? They could be useful.
Thursday: The predawn hours are active, energizing and motivating. A cosmic night light is infusing your psyche with optimism, hope and boundless possibilities. Your resolve is strengthening too, as little nagging voices of fears and what-ifs go quiet. It’s an important day for communication. Self-awareness is high today, and so is the ability to express yourself with ease. You’ll have plenty to chew on when the Moon starts a monster void at 2:44 PM EDT. This one lasts more than 24 hours, until late afternoon tomorrow.
Friday: The Moon is void of course until 5:30 PM EDT. This is no uneventful stretch, however. As has been frequently the case this year, major planetary aspects are occurring during this void, a pattern that pushes their impact deep into our beings. Today’s feature Venus, planet of love, money, creativity and all that we value. Issues of love loom large, some with a side of sacrifice. She and illusionist Neptune are heightening awe and wonder at relationship developments (or maybe just plain bafflement). A kite-string is in reach to tie a situation to solid ground. Behaving responsibly is an element, which may take the form of firming up an arrangement, moving it onto more stable turf or taking on obligations and commitments. Come evening, when the Moon enters go-get-’em Aries, the day’s sweetness pops like a soap bubble. Plans change, urges erupt out of nowhere and the air crackles with excitement and enthusiasm. Hardly a night to sit in front of a screen watching movies; vent this fire!
Saturday: Get ready: this is the most active day of the week, and how. Adventures in the dreamland rev us up and encourage leaping out of bed and making things happen. Rachet back those impulses, though. The air teems with confusion (ask for guidance, to be safe) and contagions of aggression and worse. Watch for road rage and angry words; they are indications of powerlessness unloading on misplaced targets. No one’s in much of a mood to sit and talk calmly. “I’ve had it!” and “I’m outta here” will be just as common as breaking plans and going off on solo adventures. With sparks like those still crackling, the Moon goes void of course at 3:57 PM EDT until just after midnight Monday. This stretch is anything but quiet. As has been the pattern this year, this void hosts a a cluster of major planetary aspects that prompt attention. Anger, power games and life-or-death aggression are likely, with victimization or romanticism playing a role. (Sacrifices for love? For the greater good? Misguided or unwelcoming intervening? Maybe just reenacting The Lost Weekend?) People will be shooting off their mouths and shooting from the hip, and no one is going to take kindly to hearing no, hitting a wall or being reminded of their duty. Choose your environment and companions with care. Stay out of arguments and rescue missions. They’ll amount to little.
Sunday: The Moon is void of course until 12:44 AM EDT Monday -- which means all day in the Eastern and Central time zones. Yesterday’s dust-ups fade with the dawn (especially if you decide to let them go). Today is kinder, softer, more sociable. There’s a morning-after edge, much like when you’ve gone on a bender and spend the next day figuring out what you actually did the night before, rethinking your drinking, and doing whatever it takes to get what you ingested out of your system, for now. Be gentle with yourself. Accept a friend’s invitation when it comes, or reach out when you get the nudge. But most of all, be gentle.
