Afia Walking Tree, M.Ed is a world-class percussionist, spiritual activist, empowerment facilitator, leadership development advocate and educator. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, she is currently based in Fremont, California.

Walking Tree has studied and performed with many masters within West African, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian traditions. She serves as a visionary and director for her brainchild, Spirit Drumz, through which she has facilitated transformational and culturally relevant programs using the drums of the African Diaspora to activate empowerment and healing, nationally and internationally.

Walking Tree's holistic approach is evident in her sound powah transpersonal workshops and energizing performances that empower individuals and community through percussion, ritual, dance, song, and dialogue. She is called a “luminary trailblazer” because of her innovative, joyful, constructive, and inspiring approach to envisioning, awakening, and freeing our collective voices. Many seasoned community leaders express that Walking Tree is one of the most dynamic facilitator and activist for humanity they have seen in action.

Drumming Through The Loss: Creating Your Own Personal Drumming Ceremonies

A few weeks ago, I lost a dear, beloved friend, Brindle, who spent over 30 years playing African Diasporic music, and was one of the most powerful women drummers I know. Brindle was the lead percussionist in Pele Juju. Shortly after her passing, she was honored at a drum and dance gathering. When I first arrived, I felt so overwhelmed with grief that I wasn’t sure I could even drum. For her sake, I found the courage to enter the building. As I began to play a traditional life celebration… Continue

EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY;
OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON.
One of the best things to hold onto in this world is a friend

I salute you, my new friend.

Be Someone

Be someone who listens, and you will be heard. Be someone who cares,
and you will be loved. Be someone who gives, and you will be blessed. Be
someone who comforts, and you will know peace.

Be someone who genuinely seeks to understand, and you will be wise. Be
someone kind, someone considerate, and you will be admired. Be someone
who values truth, and you will be respected. Be someone who takes
action, and you will move life forward.

Be someone who lifts others higher, and your life will be rich. Be someone
filled with gratitude, and there will be no end to the things for which
you'll be thankful.

Be someone who lives with joy, with purpose, as your own light brightly
shines. Be, in every moment, the special someone you are truly meant to
be.

-- Ralph Marston

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive,
and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born."
~*Anais Nin

Thank you , You Truly honor me with the gift of your friendship!
Namaste!
