Writing About a Secret: Confessional Writing

Abstract: We all have secrets. Writing about a secret is a form of confessional writing. This type of writing can be healing and cathartic. Why not take a few minutes to think about a secret and consider writing about it? You might be surprised what emerges! Confessional writing or writing about a secret is writing written in the first person which describes someone’s deepest and most inner feelings. It can be in the form of an essay, letter, poem, book, essay or jottings in a journal. Nurturing the Muse

Abstract: Muses might be all we need to tap into our creative side. How about taking a few minutes each day to nurture your muse? You might find some unexpected surprises lurking. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our daily goings on that we forget to give ourselves creative nourishment. The term muse comes from the original Muses who were the nine daughters of the Greek God, Zeus. In today’s world, a muse may be thought of as a source of creative inspiration. A muse can be either a person,…See More

Moving Away and Letting Go

For many people, summer is a time for new beginnings. Those with young children often change residences during the summer months so that everyone is situated for the new school year. For some, this is an exciting transition, but for others, it can be a challenge to venture down memory lane and get rid of items that no longer serve them.Perhaps that’s one of the upsides of moving—it forces us to make a clean sweep of our homes and discard what we don’t need. For those with families, deciding…See More

Writing to Heal and Transform

Whether affected by change, loss, or pain, finding the time and courage to write can support the healing process. In fact, when navigating difficult times, writing can be an invaluable and inexpensive way to heal. When feeling sadness, fear, or anger, it can be quite cathartic to pour feelings out via the written word. A dear writing colleague of mine once said, “If it hurts, write harder.”Writing has a way of adding purpose and meaning to life, and helps us tap into intuition, uncover secrets,…See More
