The recent bombings in Boston have brought many emotions and challenges to the forefront of our daily lives. Adults still recovering from the trauma are asking themselves, “How do we explain to our children what and why this has happened? Is their childhood now over, forever? What about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? How do we answer our children’s questions about people hurting other happy people on purpose?” These are important questions in need of serious answers.
The concept of Mindfulness sounds so nice and delicious, being in a state of calmness and awareness while the chaos of the world crashes around you. Being in a full state of saying ‘yes’ to whatever is happening, where you can be open and accept the activities of the present moment with a grace of a swan – Yes that’s for me.
Unfortunately wanting to achieve such a state is the great paradox of practising mindfulness, you don’t need to do anything except notice, watch and let go. When…Continue
Are you one of those people who are convinced you don’t have a creative bone in your body? If so, this will come as a pleasant surprise: we all came into this world hard wired to be creative! How creative we actually are has less to do with talent or ability than it does, interest, choice, opportunity and circumstance.
Creative self-expression is a vital part of our psychological makeup and it is a vital part of self actualization, which if you remember Abraham Maslow’s famous…Continue
[Note to Readers: Dr. Hawking recently spoke to a packed house, second auditorium and a Jumbotron-equipped lawn at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA, on the evening of April 16, 2013. He continues to assert that the Universe didn’t need divine help to burst into being. What is the one world view, if changed, that would give scientists the Unifying Theory of Everything, topple religions and unite humanity? I long for the opportunity to visit with the courageous Dr.…Continue
In the wake of the recent tragedies in Boston and elsewhere one can’t help but get somewhat mired down in this dystopian world that the media shows us on a daily basis. I think I can speak for the great majority when I say it’s exhausting and overwhelming to watch such destruction when most of us generally just want peace. As I listen to people in the media, and even engage in conversations with people in the community it seems like events like these leave people with many more questions…Continue
Life of Pi is an extraordinary movie. It takes you on a phenomenal adventure, which includes a tiger.
After telling this phenomenal story to his listener – a young and exuberant listener, Pi provides a second adventure to consider, one that is more realistic, rational and logical – the way his father wanted him to look at the world. We are brought to possibility that perhaps Pi was delusional, due to the traumatic events he endured, and that perhaps he constructed a story about the…Continue
A little under thirty years ago, the prevalence of someone having an autism diagnosis was low, comparatively, to what it is today. Families knew about autism, of course, and its more dramatic characteristics, such as the non-verbal rocking, flapping arm movements and…Continue
THE HEALING MANTRA
These are times of intense shifts and unwanted stress. What is the elixir to alleviate it? Are medicines right way to go? Just pop in an anti stress pill and you are done for the day or could there be a better proposition. What about alternative healing therapy? Does it strike a chord ? Infact, there’s no better way than ‘alternative therapy’ to release stress, anxiety, symptomatic discomfort.
What are alternative medicines? These are…Continue
The primary challenge facing most highly sensitive people (also known as "HSPs") revolves around how to maintain an optimal level of stimulation in their lives. When you have a very finely tuned nervous system, it also tends to hold true that "less is more," when it comes to deciding how much you take on in life. If you’re not entirely sure what an HSP is, please refer…Continue
There are many of us who spend our lives waiting to do one thing or another. We are waiting until we have time or money. We wait until we are old enough, fit enough, smart enough. We wait for a friend to have the time, money or motivation to do it with us. The problem lies with waiting for external stimulus to make things happen. In reality, the only one who can make things happen for…Continue
Have you ever wondered why when a woman is pregnant often times as her belly grows, her face seems to become rounder? Her cheeks seem to get noticeably fuller? Or her lips may seem a little plumper?
Yes, this could be because of the distribution of weight gain with the growing baby. Or there could be something else going on, something energetic that is being written on the story of that woman’s face – the story of a mother-to-be.
In face reading there are…Continue
