Rapids (The Dam part 3 - revisited)

In « Rapids, » the third part of « The Dam, » the protagonist/narrator is being carried from a mostly disappointing river straight into an heretofore unseen dam.

The intent behind this instrumental section is to convey a feeling of being taken ahead by an unrelenting force, and to let the listener reflect on the discourse presented in « River. »

In the storyline, the rapids represent the rising tension which…

the end that awaits us

Palliative Care

What are palliative treatments?

The goal of palliative treatment is to prolong life without compromising the quality of life. In the elderly, the demarcation between curative and palliative treatment is sometimes difficult to determine. The treatment is theoretically the best can not always be applied for reasons of physical frailty or because the tumor is associated with other conditions. In this case, the anti-tumor treatment can be delayed until the… Continue

Learning to Understand Yourself & Others

Last week while washing grapes for my granddaughters I popped one into my mouth. As the sweetness burst onto my tongue I detected a delectable earthy taste and had an instant recall of a memory thirty years prior in a California vineyard. The hot dry sun was shining down on my skin and a tall dark man was proudly showing me rows and rows of plump grapes that would soon be transformed into luscious raisins.  The savory taste of the grape had unlocked this experience that was coded into my…

alzheimer and aging

Alzheimer's patients speak brush in hand

Friday night in time to present the original exhibition hung on the walls of the nursing home, Dr. Philippe Sol spoke of Aristotle and "the cathartic power of art." In the wide corridor of the hospital, to contemplate the works produced by his patients, mostly suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, all doubt was lifted. Yes, painting, collage, drawing, essentially any form of artistic creation was undoubtedly a cleansing effect,…

Happy Mother's Day : Tribute to Mothers & Mother Nature :

Loving Mother nature

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better. Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift.

Albert Einstein

Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.

Albert Einstein

Truth is by nature self-evident. As soon as you remove the cobwebs of ignorance… Continue

Love with Insight

I have come to realize how we feel, our emotional state at any given moment is not what makes us. Our character is solid and is who and what makes us unique. Emotions and our feelings are but leafs on the ocean. Most important in all is the cultivating of a calm mind. Love together with insight into the true nature of reality and our own existence is key to true happiness and compassion.

Dependent Arising

OM! We are all interconnected and dependent on each other, everything is dependent on another for it to be, there is no island, nothing exists independently on it's own. The nature of our existence is we are social animals, we need the compassion of a mother as soon as we are born, not knowing who we are or even whose arms we are resting and yet there is a bond an affection between mother and baby. This is a lesson of life to be learned. If i break my arm or if i cut my finger or bang my toe… Continue

What Does Your Shop Front Say About You?

If you were to paint a picture of who you are on the inside, what would you look like?

Most of us spend too much time making the best of our outer facade which is just “dressed” skin, muscle and bone structure at the end of the day. We are perceived blessed by media hype if we are stunning, handsome, beautiful or gorgeous and so disproportional outer emphasis is still intrinsically embedded into our psyche.

But what of the look of your inner world? Think about it. The place…

we walk the spiral
within our minds despite denials
all one lending to the other
another myself another reflection
all i can see is the coming perfection
focus on the where not how
focus on the why now not then
when your older less bolder
now is the time which always will be
now is the time all will see we are we
all in due time within our one mind
we will find the truth no other
we are ourselves mother to brother

The Sands of Time / LightWorks Passages

From The LightWorks Passages.

▲The Sands of Time by N M Cole ©

What is it about the sand that makes us all willing to sit on it? Is it the tiny little specks of grinded down stone that have been sitting there for thousands and thousands of years? Or is it something else? The softness, the texture, the undulating ripples of quilted pleasure that makes us lay on it so still and enjoy the sunshine? Perhaps. For every grain of sand that I see is so wonderfully special and different… so… Continue

Well-Considered Counsel

You may feel more receptive than usual to the suggestions others make today. And if you actively seek out advice, you may feel so beholden to the individuals willing to provide you with guidance that you are compelled to follow their counsel.
