If you have not attended a Bikram Yoga class, you have no idea how challenging 26 simple postures become with the addition of raised temperatures.  Although my own yoga practice began with power yoga / raja, I was not prepared for what transpired in 90 minutes between me and my body.  The first class, I felt good just to stay in the room the entire time and not pass out.  I was not…

SACREDspace : OMTimes Magazine Aug 2011 - Yoga Styles J-K

The 411 on Yoga J-K

Looking at the Styles of Yoga & Understanding that ALL paths lead to h(OM)e!

Last month we began exploring several popular yoga styles.  We discovered that nearly all styles of yoga have their roots in hatha yoga –a physical discipline that focuses on developing control of the body through asanas or poses.

In Sanskrit, ha represents sun and tha represents moon. Hatha represents the duality in life — yin and yang, masculine and feminine,…

In July, the Humanity Healing STREETteam met with the Founders and Board Members of Sweet Water Sustainable Institute to visit the campus and see first hand what a 9 Million dollar gift looks like!  The first thing you notice as you drive up is the sheer magnitude of the campus and the potential to bring eco-tourism to Tennessee while providing classes on sustainability as well as Health & Wellness modalities.

Artists with OM - August 2011 : Leila Cook, the Yarn Therapist

I am an avid fiber artist specializing in crochet and knit design. I also love to weave, dye and felt. I call myself The Yarn Therapist because of my belief that fiber crafts are completely therapeutic.

They offer not only a sense of accomplishment and pride but also soothe the soul through creativity and the repetitive movement of hands. For children, handcrafts offer practice in patience, concentration and fine motor skill development.

The brain is geared to…

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten - by Robert Fulghum

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten - by Robert Fulghum

All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sand pile at school.

These are the things I learned:…

To Be or To Do II - A Spiritual Walk in the Physical Realm

Last time we took a walk on the wild side as we focused on the act of “being” and the importance of grounding oneself while looking inward for healing, prior to needs of the planet.  Until we are of sound mind & body there is no way to truly help others or tackle the big issues, such as saving our home planet.

You’ve read and hopefully had time to implement some of the pro-active steps to self healing into your daily regime.  This brings us to the present moment. …

To Be or To Do – A Spiritual Walk in the Physical Realm

The other day I experienced an overwhelming sense of peace from the experience of just being “out” of the self imposed box!  One that confines and separates us from nature and all simple pleasures – such as the warmth of the sun on our face.  The mere act of being in nature (driving, walking, riding) brings relaxation.   Living in a rural part of Tennessee, we…

SACREDspace : July 2011 : The 411 on Yoga

When you begin reading about yoga, books suggest the ultimate goal is to unite the mind, the body, and the spirit. Yogis view that the mind and the body are one, and believe that if they practice yoga and incorporate the tools for living, one can find harmony and heal self. Yoga therefore is considered therapeutic and is being utilized for those interested in “prevention NOT treatment.”  As you become more aware of your body's posture, alignment and patterns of movement, you also gain…

Health & Wellness : July 1/2 2011 - Healthy Adventures - Locally!

This summer, as many plan their vacation destinations, a re-occurring theme is seen and felt – the rising cost of petroleum impacts travel plans.  Although it does impact my travel adventures as well, after living in other countries and paying almost $4.00 per liter over 12 years ago, I am less likely to complain about the rising costs.  Truthfully, I believe after 10 years of fighting, enough doubt has been created and/or substantiated suggesting the current war was about OIL.  This leaves…

Health & Wellness : July 2011 - The Freedom to Be Healthy

Freedom is an obvious topic for a July editorial, but not related to the freedom of nations, governments, (federal / states / local) we want to share about the only real freedom there is.  These are the freedoms that no individual or government can take away because they are our divine right.  We are born with the ability to create personal freedoms, but it takes a life time to reclaim the knowledge in some cases.

Of course there is the need to define what we consider to be…

STREETteam June 2011 : Marry the Earth Ceremony

STREETteam June 2011

Marry the Earth – a ceremony to celebrate!

Many of us hear the call to heal within and serve humanity in our outward actions, thoughts and deeds – but some feel the call so strongly they have to do something about it. They are not willing to stand by and idly watch as the planet continues to be mis-used and abused. Yet, all around this amazing planet people are getting together in small groups to talk, meditate and take action. This month the STREETteam…

SACREDspace : June 2011 : Yoga & Sex - the Human Experience

There are as many different types of yoga as there are people seeking to connect with the mind | body | spirit. Each path creates an individual practice that can be a life changing event, so there is no WRONG yoga. No matter what path you choose, it is a commitment to change as well as the desire to take responsibility for life – including, but not limited to your health & wellbeing.…
