There is No Silver Bullet

The only question in life is whether or not you are going to answer a hearty 'YES!' to your adventure. -Joseph Campbell

You know what it’s like. It’s happened to just about everyone who has stepped onto their spiritual path with intention. You have an Aha! experience, an epiphany of a new way of knowing yourself, moving to a higher awareness. It’s one of those peak moments in your personal evolution and you absolutely get it. Your consciousness is elevated to the next…

Practical Oneness

All differences in this world are of degree, and not of kind, because Oneness is the secret of everything.-Swami Vivekananda

So often we think of Oneness as an abstract concept or a goal to be achieved sometime down the road. Oneness is a state of being our hearts long for beyond duality- a lofty spiritual aspiration of unity many of us know about with our intellect and pray for as a future condition. It is a way to experience life that would be…

The Spiritual Blind Spot

Did you know that there is not a motor vehicle on the road today that does not have a blind spot? And that the only way to eliminate a blind spot is to add some extra mirrors? The same is true for us in our human vehicles on our spiritual quests.

The tricky thing about our personal spiritual blind spots is that often times we don’t even know we have them. We come by them honestly.  There are a variety of reasons we have blind spots- cultural imprinting, personal history,…

Quantum Gliding

It seems like so many of us have been dramatically changing in the past couple of months~ at least it feels like it on the inside. We can’t really tell if it looks much different on the outside.

It seems like often the most profound changes on the inside don’t look like much at all on the outside. Maybe you have an epiphany while picking an orange from a tree. You are standing there, clippers in one hand, orange in another. From behind your eyes, an amazing revelation alters…

Summer Solstice: Celebrate Your Power!

In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer.

-Albert Camus

Nearly every religion of the world shows traces of influence of nature and the heavens. The Old Testament of the Jews and writings by Egyptian culture are a mass of astrological and astronomical allegories. Nearly all the Greek and Roman mythologies may be traced to star groups. The ancient…

Spiritual Juiciness: How to Get It

There is one thing for certain we all have in common. We each have a body.  Our bodies have a seemingly infinite variety of shapes, sizes, colors, dispositions, constitutions, inside functions and outside parts. Our bodies have a few things in common.  Things which at first glance seem strictly functional. We must inspire (breathe in) and expire (breathe out). Our hearts must find a rhythm at which to beat to circulate the inner juice of life, blood.  Pretty much after these basics are…

The Serpents of Ireland ST. PATRICK'S DAY

"The serpent is the symbol and prototype of the Universal Savior, who redeems the worlds by giving creation the knowledge of itself and the realization of good and evil." - Manly P. Hall

With the arrival of March comes the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Though legend has it to the contrary, it seems that Patrick was not successful…

What Was Born on 12/22/12?

You and I are the force for transformation in the world. We are the consciousness that will define the nature of the reality we are moving into. - Ram Dass

December 21st. It was the end of the world as we knew it. At least that's what we were told. But…

Three Risks Worth Taking- December Issue

And then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. -Anaïs Nin

There is nothing quite like the comfort of your own world. Everything is going along how your think it should be.  You know exactly how things are and what to expect from yourself and those around you. At least most of the time. And then, all of a sudden, something changes. And you…

In Praise of the Pomegrante

One of the symbols of Autumn that reminds me of abundance is the pomegranate. It suggests to me the fruits of receptivity and the trustworthiness of inward knowing. Additionally, it signifies the fertile possibilities of the Unmanifest which are so aptly displayed by its plethora of seeds.

As Above, So Below

Heaven—as you call it—is nowhere. Let’s just put some space between the w and the h in that word and you’ll see that heaven is now...here. -Neale Donald Walsch

Most anyone who has dipped her or his toe into the vast ocean of spiritual evolution has heard the phrase, “as above, so below”. Or as the Qabalists would say, “Kether is in Malkuth as Malkuth is in Kether.” As it is in heaven, so it is on earth.

What this…

How to Live in Interesting Times

You don't have to be a "person of influence" to be influential. In fact, the most influential people in my life are probably not even aware of the things they've taught me. -Scott Adams (Dilbert)

You have probably noticed that the world as we knew it five years ago has changed dramatically. Even the world as we knew it last year has morphed into yet another place. It looks like we are truly living out that reputed Chinese curse, 'May you live in interesting times'.

Interesting…

How to Keep Your Peak

The person in peak-experiences feels himself, more than other times, to be the responsible, active, creating center of his activities and of his perceptions. -Abraham Maslow

Many of us have had peak experiences that have shown us a new level of understanding. These peaks are those moments in which time seems irrelevant. A sublime feeling overcomes us and permeates our consciousness. We are changed. They usually happen spontaneously and last from a few minutes to a few hours. They are…

Do You Need a Bigger Hammer?

Sometimes we are so busy being the hammer or the anvil, that we forget who really needs the shaping.- Neal Maxwell

The question most associated with a hammer is whether you are the hammer or the nail. That question is a good one in many circumstances. It is often a metaphor for whether you are making conscious choices or allowing yourself to being acted upon in your life. Both ways of being are fine, as long as you have decided that this time you are just going to relax and…

In to Me See

The value of the personal relationship to all things is that it creates intimacy... and intimacy creates understanding... and understanding creates love. -Anaïs Nin

Intimacy is a popular topic with both men and women. I like the ‘into-me-see’ adaptation of the word. It pretty well sums up what intimacy is~ an invitation to create a safe interpersonal space in which to reveal your real self in all of your divine humanness.

In the…

Who or What Is Februrary?

Have you ever wondered why February is called February?

It's named after Februus, the Roman god of purification. Originally from Etruscan mythology, he lives in the Underworld and was also the god of the dead. Februus was later promoted to King of the Underworld and changed his name to Pluto (Plutoary any one?). Celebrations of purification date back to the ancient Roman celebration of Lupercalia. In fact, instruments of purification are known as…

Lovers and Lupecalia

Lupercalia was celebrated on February 15th every year in honor of Lupercus, a god of fertility whose Greek counterpart is Pan. The word lupus is Latin for wolf, an essential animal in Roman history. It was a ceremony for purification and fertility. Parts of the celebration are included in February traditions even today, such as Valentine’s Day and fasting customs such as Lent.

The festival, whose flower is the yellow crocus, is as old as Rome itself when it was nothing more…
