God's Inerrant Word

ABSTRACT

A two-thousand-year-old belief in the Christian Bible being the “inerrant word of God” has been shaken by modern thinking and scholarly scrutiny. Yet a sizable number of Christians refuse to be swayed by the overwhelming contrary evidence. An understanding of the true nature of our reality reveals a greater “logic-based” explanation for the simplistic “faith-based” pronouncement.

Coming Awake

ABSTRACT:

We are advanced entities already and can realize our higher natures while performing the simple ordinary tasks our daily routines require. We need not spend time meditating for long hours, we can accomplish a same result at work, at home, anywhere, when we learn to discipline ourselves. Results, although perhaps many years ahead, will…

Carl Jung's Contribution to Our Time

ABSTRACT:

Famed psychoanalyst Carl Jung contributions bridged the wide divide between religion of antiquity and the modern world in his day. Those same ideas remain paramount today and can help us to understand a world that seems out of control. Jung’s associate Eleanor Bertine delivers Jung’s message plainly for our time.

God a Belief?

The pastor one day spoke of people who don’t believe in God. Eleanor Bertine, then a child, heard her pastor’s…

Skeptics and Mythicists: A Crisis in Christianity

ABSTRACT

A new generation of scholars disbelieve the traditional biblical stories, saying they are neither historically sound nor factually believable. Engaging in debates with traditional theologians, each of them have some element to offer. Yet none will see the bigger picture until a metaphysical understanding is applied.

A New Generation of Biblical Skeptics

A growing cadre of religious scholars are taking traditional…

Taking Responsibility is Power to Change (Updated)

We Create Our Present Experience

The outer world materializes from within us. At break of day, before we rise from bed, we mentally consider the things we will be doing for the day, and sometimes ahead, to the next week or year, or even our lifetime. We consciously guide and steer our ideas.

Unknowing or knowingly, we connect with others, in this mental environment, planning our destinies within the framework of possibilities and limitations of a group mind. If the group…

Nonviolence and Justifiable Use of Force

Abstract:

A heated exchange between a Western Theravada Buddhist nun and lay devotees returning from violence in Myanmar touches on the difficult issue of nonviolence and justifiable self-defense. It addresses the Jesus message to love your neighbor and to turn the other cheek, and the seeming more realistic Catholic doctrine of justifiable force in a “Just War”. Nonviolence has been used in the civil rights movement by Martin Luther King in America and by Mahatma Gandhi in India’s…

Meditation Methods: Three Ways to Still the Mind

Abstract::

In Buddhism, meditation can be practiced sitting on the cushion or chair and in any other daily activity throughout the day. When sitting, the breathing method is commonly used by beginners and for calming the mind before continuing with more advanced methods. Two advanced Mahayana Buddhist methods are the “hua tou” (word head), the student continually repeating a critical question to eventually skillfully penetrate to the state of mind before the formation of words and…

Meditation Methods: Three Ways to Still the Mind

Sitting meditation is the most widely practiced Buddhist method for clearing the mind and attaining enlightenment. The student sits in a lotus-like position or on a chair, hands palms up or clasped together for encouraging the flow and retention of energy in the body. The practitioner focuses on following his breathing. As thoughts arise, he allows them to pass without attaching to them, continuing his focus on breathing in and out. It is a beginner’s way of practice, and is commonly taught…

Jane Roberts, the Seth Books: An Overlooked Giant

“You make your own reality. There is no other rule.” The phenomenally simple yet powerful plainspoken statement comes from a gestalt awareness that has lived numerous lives and is older than the Earth itself. Eighteen volumes were dictated by an entity calling himself Seth through author Jane Roberts speaking in trance, from the late 1960’s until her death in the 1980’s. Her husband at her side transcribing her words, it came to be called the “Seth material”. Her books now in reprint,…

The Bhagavad-Gita – Ancient Jewel of Indian Wisdom

Two great armies have assembled. A decisive battle is about to be fought. On the battlefield, Lord Krishna – who is God incarnate – is the charioteer for Arjuna the warrior. The Lord is unable to prevent the war, to be fought solely because of the opposing king’s greed. Arjuna has grave doubts, seeing great spiritual men; friends, relatives and teachers assembled against him for battle. He does not want to fight them. This is the backdrop for the most cherished book of Hinduism, and is the…

Nirvana, the Elusive Mystery

Different Concepts of Nirvana

In Buddhism there is a final state of becoming called “Nirvana” (also Nibbana). Various Buddhist disciplines have differing views about the concept and experience of Nirvana. Some say Nirvana is beyond words and cannot be understood except by years of meditation. But there is agreement as to the general nature of Nirvana.

Through meditation and contemplation desires and cravings are extinguished, attachment to the physical senses…

Focusing on the Present Moment

We generally don’t think about our focus of attention and its continually changing progression throughout the day. Focus is most identified with just eyesight, yet it encompasses the five physical senses, sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. Relaxing at a coffee shop, my mind may wander from the coffee cup perched upon my table to the smell of the coffee, then to the background music, and I may begin daydreaming, escaping to another place and time, forgetting for a moment I am at a…

Gospel of Thomas: The Way to Eternal Life

The Gospel of Thomas, used by followers of Jesus in the early centuries but rejected by the Church, was lost to the ages until a 1945 discovery of its full text, buried in a jar under the Egyptian sand for 1600 years. Told by Jesus to his disciple Didymos Judas Thomas, scholars consider this gospel one of Christianity’s great discoveries, some believing it may be older than any of the four New Testament gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Composed of a list of 114 sayings of Jesus,…

The "Son of Man" May Not Have Been Jesus

Recorded in the New Testament gospels are stories of Jesus telling of the “Son of Man” to be treated badly and crucified, rising on the third day. The term “son of man” was originally an Old Testament term, Jews making distinction between the sons of ordinary men and the sons of Adam, the father of a new kind of man, cognizant of and giving obedience to a one God, manifested in the phrase: “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that…

Dogma or Truth?

Dogma, defined as a point of view put forward as authoritative without adequate grounds, is typically an element in religious doctrine. Among the believers, a belief is viewed as truth, but stepping outside of their church group, a doctrine unsupported by fact can be obvious. It is not that such a belief is not true, but that it is questionable, dubious, even doubtful, improbable, or impossible. A foundation of the Christian Church is the Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ, the shedding of…

The Impossible "I"

Nothing is more amazing than a realization of the Self, itself. The Self is the center of your world; without the Self nothing whatsoever can exist. With the Self, what is within the sphere of the Self exists, and what is not within the sphere of the Self does not.

Through observation of other such “selves” we know that our world, this world, will continue to exist upon our exit from it. But subjectively, without you, there is no anything. So who is this “I” of whom is us, and of whom…

Demystifying the Mystifying

The Eastern religions have a basis for answering the question of where man comes from and to where he will go, yet the West generally cannot accept it. The term is “reincarnation”, an incarnating by the entity again and again until he comes into self-awareness and escapes the prison of an illusory world. For those of us inconsolably wedded to the storyline of the reality that we presently are embedded in, it is a harsh term.

If reincarnation is true, then our “Garden of Eden” is…

The Mystery of "I" -- (Updated 7/1/16)

The Mystery of “I”

By Arthur Telling

The Question of Old

Since recorded time, man has grappled with the big questions of what life is and who we are, dating to ancient Greece and the Chinese and ancient Mesopotamia and beyond, and there have formed many theories, ideas, and truths too, yet the nature of the self remains elusive. Who is this “I” speaking to you, and who is this “I” the reader?

“I” cannot be seen, or heard, or touched; yet “I”…
