10 Tips How to Research and Structure Your Scientific Paper or Essay

Scientific research papers provide a framework where researchers communicate the results of their research and the methodology they used during the entire research before drawing conclusions. A standard structure is used in these essays where the researcher presents the research in an orderly manner. A good research paper, therefore, requires a good organization of ideas before doing detailed research on each concept. The first thing is to put the order of your sections into considerations. Basically, a good research paper begins with a title, abstract and table of contents before venturing into the introduction.  The following are 10 tips on how to research and structure your scientific paper.

Planning Your Paper

This is the most basic thing to do even before thinking of writing a single word. Before writing any research paper, you need to take a time to plan your work knowing what is required in every section of your work. For instance, Research papers usually have graphs, tables and figure which require careful planning. Most research papers limit the number of tables and figures as well as specify the design aspects of these items. Once you have decided on the use of tables and figures, select the one that best suits your purpose based on your research topic. Planning is important as it gives a flow of ideas to your paper. It also shapes the format of your paper by first designing the structure before venturing into writing the paper.

Write The Title of Your Research

The title of your research or thesis introduces your readers on the topic you are researching on. It must be clear and comprehensive about the area of interest and the situation of the problem.  Your title must be specific enough to outline the contents of your paper as well as appropriate to the target population. A title may take different shapes. For instance, it might describe the subject matter of the paper such as the effects of drugs on family or summarize the results of the paper such as drugs leads to family break ups.

Abstract Your Paper

An abstract is simply a summary of your research. It summarizes the purpose of the research, methodology used during the research period and findings. This summary is published together with the scientific paper outlining what your article entails or simply giving a preview of what is expected in the paper.  However, don’t dissuade your readers’ suspense of reading your paper by telling them everything in the abstract it should only outline the key points preferably one or two paragraphs.

Introduction

A few paragraphs are enough in this section. This part covers the background of your study and your motivation towards the topic of your interest. It summarizes the important literature as well as provides the research questions and objectives that your paper wished to explore. Limitations and scope of your study should also be included in this section. End the introduction part by a statement explaining the specific objectives you covered in your paper.

Get The Relevant Literature Review

This part entails writing what other authors covered or said in the field you are researching on as well as what you covered. This is the main body of any research paper as it is where the author covers all relevant ideas in the research before giving us the findings. You should be prepared in getting enough materials to support your research. Search for other articles that have been published about the topic you are researching on to get enough concept and ideas of what your thesis should entail. The author should relate his ideas with other author’s ideas to give a comprehensive and detailed study in the field of interest. It should be noted that the results of the study should not be included in this section unless you are aiming to give your readers preliminary results used to design the main area.

Highlight The Methodology Used

In this section, the researcher should clearly outline the methods he used in data collection to gather relevant information in the field of interest. The method used may include primary or secondary data. Primary data is that first-hand information got from the target population. The methods used in collecting primary data may include interviews, questionnaires or observation. Secondary data in turn involves information that already exists about a certain phenomenon. The method chosen in collecting data should suit the field you are researching on.

Outline Your Findings.

This is the section that outlines the results of your study. The researcher should present all relevant results gotten from the study. The findings can be presented in form of graphs and tables and also a narrative explaining what the graphs mean. It should be basically the results and not discussion. The author should not interpret these results since there is a section for that work. This is the most important section as it makes your study realistic and relevant to your readers.

Discuss Your Results

After presenting your findings to the audience, this part involves discussing those results. Select the most important results but avoid repeating what you have already stated in the findings section. Your discussion should be based on how the results relate to the questions you had raised earlier in the introduction part. In this section you may accept or reject your hypotheses based on whether your data supports the latter. Highlight whether your findings are consistent with what other researchers have reported. If your results become unique, try to explain the reason as to why they do not match other investigators’ results.

Conclusion and Recommendation

The researcher should conclude his study based on what he found relevant throughout the study. The hypothesis formulated should aid in drawing conclusions on. For instance, the author may conclude that drugs were found to have adverse effects on marriage. Divorce is the main consequence of using drugs in a family. Recommendation may follow where the author comes up with what he/she thinks should be done as a solution to the field he was researching on. This is where one expresses his views and Offers possible solutions.

Reference Your Paper

The researcher should cite the sources of his information and point out to various books or authors where he got the information from. The citations should be arranged in alphabetical order and various styles as per the research requirements should be used in citation. Some of the most popular styles include: APA, MLA, HAVARD and CHICAGO.

The above listed tips will help you structure your scientific paper as well as equip you with relevant knowledge on what you are expected in each and every field. A good research paper as on essayrepublic.com must entail the listed key elements for easy viewing of your audience.

Luisa, the advice you offer in your final sentence really ought to be taken to heart. Your embedded links, if they are truly references and not spammy advertisements, ought to be clearly indicated as references below your work. Also, your bio paragraph is missing. If you intend for your article to even be considered, kindly revise and let me know so it may be reviewed once more. ~ Blessings!
