A study in the American Journal of Cardiology showed that teaching people to meditate lowers blood sugar.
A study at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center showed that teaching TM meditation to people with diabetes lowers blood sugar.
At Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Dr. Herbert Benson did a study showing that meditation lowers blood sugar by increasing insulin production, decreasing inflammation, and increasing mitochondria metabolism (which is the power center of each cell). Plus good genes were switched on, and bad genes were switched off… and helps regulate the endocrine system which controls sugar balance.
In a study in the archives of Internal Medicine it was found that meditation helped those suffering from diabetes control their blood sugar… especially those suffering from insulin resistance.
People are able to overcome low blood sugar with meditation, even when they are feeling faint… but after meditation they feel great.
Another study showed that those who suffer from diabetes crave sweets and carbs but when meditating their cravings disappear.
It was found at the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine that those who started practicing meditation had lower blood sugar and stress levels. Stress causes cortisol and adrenalin to be produced in the body and those chemicals causes increased blood sugar.
Therapists who work with people who suffer from diabetes find that those who do meditation and have a deeper understanding of themselves… thus they take care of themselves better… and their blood sugar is lower.
A study was done with two groups, one with a mindful awareness approach to life (a type of meditation), the other with general stress reduction. At the end of the program the mindfulness participants has lower blood glucose levels.
One participant in a TM mediation program had his blood glucose go up to 500 (normal range 70-110). But after practicing TM for a few months is blood glucose dropped to normal.
A group of Elders with diabetes from the Winnebago Indian Tribe spent a few days at Maharishi University learning meditation. They soon found that their blood glucose dropped and so did their blood pressure.
A study at Duke University Medical Centre showed that meditation regulates blood sugar levels.
A study at Indiana State University showed that meditation cuts binge eating thus lowering blood sugar and preventing metabolic syndrome.
These are just a few studies showing that meditation does lower blood sugar.
Time to sit down and meditate for 20 minutes…
