As I write this I look out my 7 windows that over looks our community school.
I watch, and see the children play freely, and know my children are some of the most
popular children at school. Then I look and see other children, and they stand on their
own with know one to play with. My heart goes out to all the children.
Before I left my old school, I set an invitation to the staff, and children to come to my
house for pot luck of cultures, and music. The only people that arrived were the children.
They had so much fun, and they came with no food. Most of them could not eat meat so I
made a meatless chili. Everyone sat quietly, and ate; and then played, and had fun. After
all the children were going to go home as I had to drive them home.
They said I was the best teacher in the world. Again before I left I brought a drum, and
most of these children were from Africa, and when they started to play the drum, it was
as though they came to life. They danced, and drummed, and talked, and had fun.
I believe if we all want to belong it is essential to communicate, and learn, and be open to
a cultural exchange. As when we can learn from others from around the world ,and be
open to experience, and then we all feel welcome, and we can start to open our hearts,
and doors to new experiences.
How can you make someone feel they belong within your community?
What make you feel that you belong within your family unit, work , friends etc, and
