Break your Jug
Harry Palmer, creator of The Avatar® Course tells us, “There is an old story about a farmer who finds a pumpkin that has just started to develop. To protect the little pumpkin from the elements he slips it inside a jug. Then he goes on his way and forgets about it. When harvest time comes, the pumpkin has grown only as large as the jug. The jug that once protected it eventually limits its growth.
Many people are in the same situation as the pumpkin. To find protection, they have embraced sheltering beliefs about who they are, what they can do, and what they can become. For a time these beliefs offer comfort and protection, but beliefs, particularly limiting beliefs, soon lose their usefulness. Limiting beliefs form a jug. It is a person’s own considerations that limit his or her potential.” (In The Avatar Path, The Way We Came p. 49. The Avatar Course is an International self-evolvement course. There are weekend workshops and 9-day courses around the world.)
Being inside the jug is basically being in our comfort zone. We don’t have to put any effort into how we are seeing things because we are on automatic. It is interesting that we use the term “comfort zone.” The only thing comfortable about it is that everything is known. It appears to be a safe place to rest, but actually life is always evolving. So when we are inside our jugs, we are actually evolving in the wrong direction. Harry palmer says the when we stay there we essentially begin to rot!
Although the jug can seem momentarily more comfortable, the effects of the comfort zone are not comfortable. It’s like junk food. We like that initial moment of eating it, but that same “comfort food” often gives us effects that we really don’t want. When we stay inside our jug we are trading the fear of stretching into the unknown, for the comfort of stagnating in our old default patterns.
On the other hand, when we stretch for something that inspires us, we feel alive and empowered, and we get to develop a fresh perspective and evolve toward greater joy and success. Many people try to take action to make changes without changing their beliefs. This is when we feel like we are doing everything we can but not seeing results. The old beliefs keep reasserting themselves and we end up creating a variation of the original limiting pattern, despite our efforts.
When there is something more that we want to create, we first need to recognize that our belief system that got us where we are now will not get us to a new place. We need to inspect and let go of old limitations about ourselves, the world and what is possible. When we do that, and then take action, we are on our way to creating a new reality!

Wonderful. Thank you!
Yes - no need to alter this - it is already scheduled for October. Thank you, Ariela ~ Blessings!
ok. I appreciate it...
Let me check and get back to you later today, but I think it is scheduled as-is. Thanks ~ Blessings!
Thank you- I am just following up to see if there are any additional changes I need to make for the Break your Jug blog post...
Hi, again, Ariela - there are two things to let you know - the items in the writers community are considered articles as opposed to blogs, which is why we are more conscious as to length and how they are composed. These are published and republished around the world, and everything here in the community must be provided at that state of readiness. Many members (myself included) do have outside blogs where we can go on at length about a particular subject.
The experts program is not just for contributions, but for persons who are teachers, facilitators, readers, healers, etc., who have a course or class they teach or have available for online interaction. For example, if you wanted to teach your Avatar course to people together online, it is a platform for that to take place. You can find out more at this link: https://experts.omtimes.com/
Stay tuned for updated submission standards and other guidelines in the near future. ~ Blessings!
Thank you for publishing the post and for your suggestions. I referenced the course after the story. This is my first time blogging, so please let me know if I did it properly, or if I should change it)
How do I contribute to the OmTimes Experts program?
Hi, Ariela - the jug is an interesting metaphor, and including the pumpkin even makes it seasonal. I will forward to the publishers, and hope it might be scheduled in the next month or so. As to the reference made in here (and this seems to be a consistent thing with each article of yours so far, these quotes by Harry Palmer can be featured, and references to the Avatar course ought to be placed as references beneath the story part of your article.
One additional suggestion is to vary your offerings to include other sources or references than the one piece of source material. We are noticing this from a number of writers who are basically here to feature their work. OMTimes does has our OMTimes Experts program for contributors who are trying to reach and teach more of our audience, for your consideration ~ Blessings!
