Gardens retirement home, why? how?

Preamble

More and more studies show that the maintenance of health, sense of well-being, sleep quality, reduction of necessary drugs, appetite, the desire to communicate with others, etc.., are strongly favored by several factors architectural, environmental and organizational: Presence of trading as quiet areas, presence of suitable courses to be able to walk without fear of falling a long, challenging elements for the senses (pleasures scents, vision a beautiful landscape ...) and mind (activity reviving a practice of the past, objects associated with some memories).
Many facilities have a space, well thought and designed, can help meet these goals: the garden.

Before entering buildings, a garden is often the first image as perceived by prospective residents, visitors and journalists. And experience shows this: the feeling is quite different depending on the space between the street and setting like a garden or parking!

The garden is primarily a place multiple, consisting of several places. It lets you build:
- The image moving with the seasons, the environment, both outward and protection (when it is aesthetically aggressive);
- Places where you can enjoy a moment of solitude or intimacy with a parent;
- Space-focused activities, or to contemplate, much like what many French people have played (a small vegetable garden, some flowers, herbs);

The garden can be behind and to allow more privacy. Can then be provided, for example, a space where physical therapists can work in good time with their patients.
It may be in front. It then allows you to think about the pleasures shared between the residents of the retirement home and their neighbors, as in the nursing homes where picking hazelnuts and raspberries meets regularly throughout the neighborhood),

A place of well-being and pleasure.
All residents who benefit from them speak of the pleasures they provide. They describe their joy to see plants, flowers or fruits, smell them, taste them, to take care to see pass the time with the seasons and plants, to see the trees, symbols of this growing and aging at a time, to be linked with animals, water, indulge in reverie, create and participate in the garden and its inhabitants, share knowledge and experiences.
The garden is not a place for contemplation. There is also support living activities:
- Those who seek memory, because most older French have learned in their childhood, the names of plants and garden birds of France;
- Those who work the body; bins, for some crops, are designed to be used by people unable to address, or by persons in wheelchairs;
- Those open to others as this workshop culture where residents of nursing homes in L. teach children from a nearby school to perform certain actions

Therapeutic garden, garden pleasure, or shared secret garden. We must not forget that a garden is also dangers. Not the most beautiful garden serves as the table if one dares to go there for fear of falling, to get lost, get hurt, to drown ...
EPHAD the garden, to be open to all, including people with Alzheimer disease, should consider the risks
- Allergies (pollens. ..)
- Falls
- Toxic plants (berries, flowers and leaves of certain plants ...),
- The errors which may lead the person to leave the garden and get lost outside.
