Leg pain is very common and affects people of all ages. According to Iven Treatment Center, women in particular can experience regular bouts of leg pain (Iven). The pain can range from stabbing sensations to dull or minor aches. Leg pain can affect one or both legs. Pain in the legs can cause numbness, weakness and tingling or annoying sensations. In most cases, pain in the legs can be as a result of muscle fatigue, cramps, muscle spasm, dehydration, nutritional deficiencies or standing for a long period of time. Luckily, common leg problems can be handled using remedies readily available at home as explained below. 

Heat or cold compression

Muscle cramps can be handled by applying ice on the affected area. Ice works by relaxing the muscles and this reduces the pain. You can use a towel or washcloth to wrap the ice cubes. The cubes should be applied directly onto the aching muscle. If the pain persists, you can soak your leg in warm water or take a warm shower. Warm water loosens and relaxes the affected muscle. 

Massage


Most of the pain of the leg can be effectively treated by massaging the affected muscle. Massage helps to promote faster recovery from leg pain or muscle damage. The Science Translational Medicine Journal published a study stating that 10 minutes of daily leg massages can greatly improve blood circulation, which in turn relieves stress and reduces pain. 

Turmeric 

Turmeric is an antioxidant making it an effective remedy for leg pain. Turmeric also has strong anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric contains a compound known as curcumin which has molecules that relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Turmeric can be used with warm sesame oil. The paste should be applied on the affected area. You can leave it on for 30 minutes. You can also drink a glass of turmeric milk twice a day to help ease the pain. The doctor can also recommend turmeric as a supplement. This is especially for people with recurring pain in the legs or veins. 

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a great remedy for relieving muscle pain. It is particularly ideal for arthritis. Apple cider vinegar works by alkalizing the affected area. Its alkalizing effect dissolves the uric acid in the blood. In addition to this, it helps to clear the buildup of toxins in the connective tissues. Apple cider also supplies calcium, potassium and other essential minerals that are necessary for relieving pain and reducing inflammation. 

Common leg pain can easily be treated using these simple home remedies. If pain persists, see a doctor to receive a professional treatment.
