I was just listening to a great song on the radio (If Today Was Your Last Day by Nickleback) and it got me to thinking.
It's interesting how we spend so much time running around trying to get everything done. We fall into a heap on the couch at the end of the day exhausted. I used to keep a to-do list every day and really enjoyed crossing things off but then I found it stressed me out to think of all the things I didn't complete that I still had left to do and realized it was creating more stress in my life than less.
So I ditched my to-do list and started simply focusing on 3 things I wanted to complete in my day. I would get up early, set my intentions of what were the 3 most important things I wanted to accomplish for this day and 99.9% of the time when the day ended I would be able to say YES I did that, I achieved my goal.
This has given me much less stress in my life than my endless to do list. I still will occasionally write out long-term things I'd like to complete but gone is my daily to-do list and in its place is a calmer more peaceful life. I have been able to exist within a love vortex, focusing on creating more love and joy in my life and after thinking long and hard...
If today were my last day I would:
Yes, boring I know, but I've really given this a lot of thought.
I love my life simple.
I don't need any fancy places or creative excursions to be happy...I just need family, friends and FOOD.
This is actually a good exercise to do on occasion maybe every five years. It helps you to slow down and put life into perspective.
What would you do if today were your last day?
