In listening to a great song on the radio (If Today Was Your Last Day by Nickleback), it got me to thinking.

It's interesting how we spend so much time running around trying to get everything done. We fall into a heap on the couch at the end of the day exhausted. Many keep a to-do list every day and really enjoy crossing things off. That used to be me but then I began focusing on all the things I didn't complete that I still had left to do and realized it was creating more stress in my life than less.

So ditch the to-do list and start simply focusing on 3 things you want to complete in a day. Get up early, set the intention of what the 3 most important things you want to accomplish for the day. For myself, 99.9% of the time when the day ends I now say "YES I did that, I achieved my goal" feeling calm and confident I can tackle another day.

This gives us much less stress in our life than an endless to do list. We may occasionally still write out long-term things we'd like to complete but do away with that daily to-do list and in its place you will find life is a calmer more peaceful place. It is possible to exist within a love vortex and create more love and joy in life.  Here is a bucket list of things I would do if today were my last day.

  1. Give my partner a smoldering kiss before they leave for work.
  2. Walk the dogs because there's nothing better than watching them get all excited when you say "Who wants to go for a walk?!?"
  3. Take a long, hot, steamy bath with loads of epsom salt and bubbles listening to soft music.
  4. Wear the sexist undergarments in my drawer (this is the special occasion I've been waiting for) and those comfortable jeans with that favorite sweater I've had for 20 years and still look great in.
  5. Go out to that favorite breakfast joint with my sister.
  6. Watch old reruns of my favorite TV shows.
  7. Have bloodymary's with my besties for lunch because yup sometimes it's fun to be naughty like that.
  8. Shake my bootie to my favorite song.
  9. Go to one of those apps and schedule birthday cards for everyone to receive on their next birthday after because that first year is going to be the hardest for everyone. Imagine how surprised they will be to see that birthday card in the mail!
  10. Take an afternoon nap with the fur babies all curled up in my lap.
  11. Eat that favorite candy bar I usually deny myself.
  12. Go out to dinner with the family at my favorite restaurant and indulge in ice cream afterwards.
  13. Spend the evening enjoying a funny movie with popcorn and a rootbeer.
  14. And what I would do "all night long" will be my little secret, cuz secrets are fun to have!

All my favorite things wrapped up into one day what an exquisite way to spend the last day on this planet!

Once you give it some thought you might realize too that when you keep your life super simple it's super easy to be happy.

This is actually a good exercise to do on occasion maybe every five years or so. It helps one to slow down and put life into perspective. And actually, scheduling out those birthday cards even if it's not your last day isn't a bad idea. Remember keep it simple... Family + Friends + Food = Happy

What would you do if today were your last day?

Okay - going to move this on to the publishers for use in a future edition, with our thanks ~ Blessings!

Hi Kathy, I removed all brand names. Thank you again. Julie

Yes, Julie - Go ahead and remove brand names, please. Unless some other company became a sponsor, anytime we are publishing using a generic form of [whatever] would be preferable. Thanks!

Oh that's no problem. I can delete those. Just let me know.

Not a final word just yet...kicking around the brand-names mentioned...will contemplate. ~ Blessings!

For some reason this one was a little harder, probably because it's a little more emotional for me. Let me know if this passes the test, I'm happy to revise if its still a little off. ;)

Hi, Julie - a bunch better, yes, and there are still a few places where the "I" still wants to take center stage:

"I was just listening to a great song on the radio (If Today Was Your Last Day by Nickleback) and it got me to thinking." - could be:

This gives us much less stress in our lives than my endless to-do list. We may occasionally write out long-term things to complete, but gone is the daily to-do list, and in its place is a calmer, more peaceful life. While many of us feel able to exist within a love vortex, we can always benefit from focusing on creating more love and joy in life. This is just a list of what I would do if today were my last day.

AND

"

This is what I would do if I knew today was my last day. Boring I know but I love my life simple.

I don't need any fancy places or creative excursions to be happy...I just need family, friends and FOOD." could be:

This is what I would do on my last day. It may seem boring but a simple life is fairly common. We may not need any fancy places or creative excursions to be happy--just family, friends, and food.

For your consideration. ~ Blessings!

Wow! You are pretty awesome at your suggestions and so specific with your recommendations. I truly appreciate your insight. I did some recrafting and am not sure I totally got it right but I'd like to send it through for another look see!  Thanks again Kathy!!!

Hi, Julie - two things about your article:

First, using the exact same title as the group's song will most likely not have a favorable effect on its value in being searched. While it is a noteworthy, "what-if" subject, it might be best to phrase the title in that way: "What IF Today Was Your Last Day?"

Next is the first-person perspective. Yes, I understand you were the one relaying the experience of what was running through your head at the time you heard the song. However, in relaying it here it reads more as a blog post than an article. We ask that contributions be written with the inclusive voice. More than reporting what YOU would do if today was your last day, how might our reader best receive that message? What could THEY do differently? Therefore, eliminating all of the "I would's" leaves us with:

Kiss our loved ones before they left the house;

Enjoy a hot, steamy bubble bath;

Maybe wear some sexier underwear; etc... Do you see?

Leaving the suggestion(s) without the "I" is fine. Plant the seeds....Let them grow in the minds of our audience.

If you would like to revise, please let me know so I can review once more. Thank you ~ Blessings!
