The year is ending and you have the opportunity to reflect back on the year and finish it strong. Instead of making plans for the new year why not create an awesome end to the current year? You might have items you did not finish in the current year. Instead of stressing over those items here’s a plan to finish the year without stress and to lay the foundation for a great new year. Follow these tips and create a solid finish the remaining weeks of this year and a really strong start to next year.
Acknowledge Your Accomplishments: Take time to notice all the things you accomplished and created. What did you do well? What did you get done? What did you achieve? Focus on your successes. What other items can you finish over the few remaining weeks? Get a few more things done to add to your list.
Celebrate Every Success: We are so busy in our live and day to day we rarely stop and honor ourselves and pat ourselves on the back and say “good job”! It’s time to do just that. Notice all you have achieved and stop and celebrate. Tell others what you have done and most of all stop and celebrate what you have achieved. Take yourself out to dinner or a show and take time before this year is over to treat yourself to a night out or a spa day or some other special event.
Write Down Your Accomplishments: Get out a journal and write down all you have achieved this year. Everything. No matter how small. If you lost weight, cooked a favorite recipe, kept up with phoning friends, etc. No matter how small something might seem, jot it down. Stop and let yourself accept praise for every item as you write it down. Be grateful for each achievement. Think of one of two small things you can accomplish before the year is out and be grateful for accomplishing those as you jot those in your journal as well.
Let Go of Shoulds: Forget things you believe you should have accomplished this year. There are no shoulds. We don’t live by should haves. We live in the moment for the moment. What you have done is perfect. Accept what you have accomplished is absolutely perfect and appreciate the perfection. The past is the past and the present is perfect. Focus on the now. Don’t start thinking and planning for the new year instead be in the moment so that you can enjoy the here and now.
Complete What Bugs You: Notice Anything that is bugging you in your office or home and get those things done before the end of the year. Things that you don’t have time or energy to fix, hire someone to do. These things distract you and take your mind and focus away from enjoying what is important. Even when you think you aren’t noticing them subconsciously you are. Don’t leave them incomplete before the new year. Get them handled today.
Remove Toxic Drains. What are the things that drain you? We all have them. People? Experience? What is sucking your time, your energy, your focus? Are there toxic people in your work or your relationships? It’s time to remove them now and say NO to them now. What experiences at work or home drain you? You need to remove them as well. You can’t have focus and clarity or keep positive going into the new year and can’t accomplish your goals if you bring these people and experiences with you. Say NO now.
Be Fearless: What do you fear? Let go of your biggest fear now! Afraid of heights? Get on that rollercoaster and ride it now. Don’t wait until next year. Afraid to say yes to that job offer? Say yes now. Whatever holds you back say yes today and get started now. Not next year.
When you do these things today you will make the rest of the year the best of the year. No need to wait for New Year's resolutions. You can make the rest of the year the best of the year and lay a solid foundation in this year to create an amazing new year!
