GREATness Begins with Being GRATEful
Have you every thought about what it means to give thanks or how it can actually benefit the body? Many celebrate and give thanks in the month of November for the previous years’ harvest and bounty, while also giving thanks for what the future holds. While some cultural traditions have taught children to indulge in food and drink in a way that did not honor the body, mind or spirit, change is upon us. A conscious and balanced approach for gratitude is the new “way of grateful.”
Since I am already pushing my boundaries in various areas of life, I have to share the love challenge you to reflect upon what you are thankful about. Once you have spent a sufficient amount of time in honest consideration, you can order them in importance. Focus a few moments giving thanks for every blessing currently in your life.
Now I want you to step outside your box and place everything that caused you emotional, physical, or spiritual pain in the same mental space as all the obvious blessings. Part of walking the “conscious path” is being open to the possibility that blessings and wisdom come in all types of packaging. It has been my experience that the moments causing the most pain, were also the same moments that provided true jewels and nuggets of wisdom for the soul. We have the ability to create something beautiful from every situation – but it’s not easy in the beginning. It takes practice, just like any skill to be mastered.
When we practice gratitude, something powerful happens. Instead of moving from being happy, then depressed, then happy again, we become grateful. Many people who practice daily gratitude report that their life has improved. They are more balanced, are easier to please and they generally feel a sense of calmness and peace. [1] Try to find gratitude in the moments that you least expect to discover something good.
Thanksgiving
For each new morning with its light, For rest and shelter of the night, For health and food, For love and friends, For everything Thy goodness sends. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
