my first spring in the Blue Ridge Mountains
the sight of Red Bud, Crepe Myrtle and Tulip trees
caught my breath left me speechless with wonder after
decades of living in the Alpine dessert where the dusty pastels of Apricot and
Apple were the main harbingers of spring
at first I felt like a damned Yankee transplanted in a fantastically new country
where on rainy March days a drive through corridors of
hot pink and magenta signal Springs arrival
their stark grey limbs sprayed with rosy glowing flowers
a striking contrast to the background of the emerald green of the valleys
echo with the drawl of the spoken word
red bud…barely moving lips
as if acknowledging a blessing…red bud
perhaps a prayer…red bud
definitely a declaration of the
rights of spring.
even though I still vote blue,
today I can now speak like the native Virginians
say Red Bud and barely move my lips
while celebrating the changes in the season

Hello! Thank you for posting this article. My name is Regina, I'm one of the editors at OM Times. Unfortunately this piece doesn't quite fit our submission guidelines. You can find the full guidelines on this link, though I have also sumarized them below:
http://omtimes.com/guidelines-policies/submission-guidelines/
To be considered for publication, article submissions should fit the following criteria:
- Original content, in other words, it hasn't been posted in other magazines or in blogs.
- We are aiming for a professional tone of voice, using "we" rather than "I" to make the articles more inclusive, and to avoid sounding like a blog post. We would also suggest avoiding second person as much as possible, to keep from sounding too preachy (as in, "you might be doing this wrong...)
- Please include an Author Bio with links to your profile and any information (up to 60 words)
- Title reflective of the general theme (up to 60 characters)
- Article length: 500 - 800 words
Please let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to resubmit.
Blessings!
Regina
