What does it mean to really love yourself?
I’ve heard many answers to that question, but many of those answers meant looking outside of myself for validation from others.
Self-love is not about ego, it is not conceited, judgemental, looking down on others to make yourself feel better. When you really love yourself, you accept yourself for who and what you are. You accept the many different aspects of yourself. You make peace with the parts that you are not proud of, but accept them as being a part of who you are.
That can take some time. To truly be able to accept every part of who you are is something many struggle with. Some have spent a life-time hearing how they are not good enough, or how they need to do more, to be more. But who you are right now, in this moment, is all you need to be. As you read that, how do you feel? Does it ring true? Does it make you want to cry? Do you believe it?
Take a moment to just Be, to sit, still and undisturbed. Look in the mirror and see you, look deep into your own eyes and tell yourself that you love you. The first time I did that it made me cry. I had believed the lies I had been told for too many years, that I wasn’t good enough, that I didn’t deserve love, but now I realise those statements were nothing to do with me, they were a reflection of the state of heart and mind of the people who uttered those words. Who I am is all that I can be right now. Who I am grows, learns, experiences, but in each and every moment I am worthy and deserving of all the wondrous things that the Universe wants to give me. I am Blessed and Loved by All That Is. And if All That Is loves me, how can I not love myself?
You are perfect as you are, right now. No-matter what is happening in your life, you are never alone. Whatever your beliefs, know that you are part of All That Is, you are a Divine Goddess. You are worthy and deserving of all things. Open your heart and mind, and allow yourself to receive all of the beautiful, wonderful gifts that await you. When you love yourself just as you are, you realise just how deserving you are.
