Shepherds Purse - An Edible Free Green that Does Your Body Good

Shepherds Purse herb grows all over the world in temperate climates and was once used by Native Americans to heal many different types of aliments. 

It has a fruit that looks like a money purse from the middle ages… thus the name “Shepherds Purse.” For many this is a weed that grows around the yard but for those who know Shepherds Purse is a great little green. 

Skin - Shepherds Purse can be used topically in ointments for cuts, scrapes, eczema, and rashes, and to stop bleeding and to sooth away irritation. 

Ulcers - And Shepherds Purse works well for bleeding gastric ulcers and other GI tract related bleeding. And studies using rats show that Shepherds Purse has the ability to prevent stress induced ulcers. 

Urinary Tract Bleeding - And Shepherds Purse can also been used in cases of urinary tract bleeding and inflammation. 

Uterine Bleeding - Shepherds Purse works well for bleeding fibroids or any other type of uterine bleeding. 

Heavy Periods - If you suffer from excessive bleeding during periods Shepherds Purse helps. 

Edible - The leaves, seeds, flowers and just about everything on this plant is edible and is widely used in China, Japan, and Korea in many culinary dishes including dim sum. It can be used in stews, soups, casserols, in salads, and has a nice flavour that’s similar to mustard greens and turnip greens. This is one of those free foods that you can find just about any where… similar to dandelion greens.

Great for Birds - Birds love the seeds and some people plant Shepherds Purse just to make sure the birds have something nice to eat. And chickens love Shepherds Purse and it makes their eggs tastier… and the yolks much darker in color. 

Good Diuretic - Shepherds Purse is a good diuretic that works well for getting rid of excess water weight and for helping to purge urinary stones. 

Anti-inflammatory - Shepherds Purse is also a mild anti-inflammatory so it works well for arthritis and other irritations of the joints. 

Nose Bleeds - Take a kleenex and place some of the juice from the stem on it… and use that as a compress against the bleeding area of the nose - it will stop the bleeding. 

Antibiotic - Shepherds Purse can be used to treat some types of bacterial infections especially gram positive bacteria… it has a mild antibacterial action. 

Diarrhea - Shepherds Purse also works well for helping with diarrhea and for soothing the GI tract. 

Contains - Shepherds Purse contains lots of great vitamins such as Vitamin K for blood clotting, calcium and phosphorus for strong bones, beta carotene which is a great antioxidant, Rutin for strong vessels, B Vitamins for vitality, potassium for water regulation and cardiovascular health, iron for anemia, plus Vitamin C which is a powerful antioxidant.

Blood Pressure - And because it contains a good amount of potassium it helps regulate blood pressure. 

Free - This weed grows wild all over the US and in other parts of the world and makes a great addition to your diet.
