Crowdfunding has been a popular trend in the last few years.  People who are looking to get a new project, business or idea off the ground are looking for 'backers' to help support their cause. The point of crowdfunding is to acquire support from a large base of people instead of from one main source. Can we take this idea of crowdfunding and apply it globally? Looking at it as an investment in humanity to fund our awakening?  There are already some well-established missions going on to get people en masse to meditate, and participate in mass healings and intention experiments. What would happen if we all made our own personal commitment to support one of these movements? Thinking of it as our way to spiritually fund the betterment of humanity.

The Urgency

There is no doubt we are a world in need of a little spiritual currency.  Whether we are talking about dealing with climate change, terrorism or poverty, we need solutions fast.  The only problem is that in this highly polarized, political climate much of the change we need to see isn’t happening. Anytime we propose top down solutions it is met with fierce opposition. It appears we may need to take a different approach. While spiritual crowdfunding seems like a round about way to create change, it is really the most direct approach we can take.  We are not taking our voices to the streets, signing a petitions or contacting our political representatives, rather shifting the vibration in our hearts, allowing that love and life force energy to travel the world on the heartlines of consciousness.

The Evidence

In 1993, over 4000 transcendental meditators congregated for a period of 3 weeks in Washington DC to see if they could impact the violent crime rate. What the results showed was a negative correlation, meaning that as the group of meditators increased, the lower the violent crime rate dropped. With a maximum decrease up to 23. 3%. [i] The amazing thing about this study is that they were just meditating, not specifically trying to bring the crime rate down.  Just having that many people together in meditation, radiating peace and harmony without any specific intention created this statistically significant effect. In another 2-year meditation study done on large-scale, peace-creating assemblies with over 7,000 participants, revealed a 72% worldwide reduction in injuries and deaths due to terrorism.[ii]  In fact, there have been over 50 public demonstrations and 23 published studies showing the same thing.  Many of them without specific intention for a desired outcome.

Lynne McTaggart, a best-selling author and researcher, has been doing large-scale intention experiments for years, from increasing biophoton emissions of plants, to decreasing attacks in war torn areas such as Afghanistan.  In one specific study, they measured the effect of sending loving thoughts to water.[iii]  In that study they measured several parameters to understand the signals being emitted from the water and compared them to the signals before and after the intention experiment.  What they found is that the loving intention increased the intensity and power of the signal. What they also discovered is that the experience of the intender, as well as the specificity of the intention had an impact on the results. Now if we think about how much of the earth and our bodies are made of water, what could a global, loving intention do for the betterment of humanity?

The Tipping Point

We are all connected and it is through the unified field that spiritual crowdfunding finds it’s home.  What if we all made an investment in large-scale group intentions and meditations? Each of us doing our part to serve the greater good. It costs no money, only a mindful breath and a heartfelt intention. We know that it works and it can have a big impact.  If enough of us get involved, could we reach that tipping point that many of us are hoping for? The point where we reach critical mass and the waves of peace and sustainability spread like wildfire through the population. That would be the ideal, however tipping points are neither good nor bad, it depends on the level of consciousness behind them. Many believe that we are reaching a tipping point with our climate and energy resources.  So coming together in a positive way becomes even more important.

Ways to Get Involved

There are many great organizations that are already doing this work. The first place to start is to develop your own personal meditation practice. As noted from Lynne McTaggart’s work, the experience of the intender makes a difference. So participating with an already established skill in mindfulness and meditation techniques helps to deepen the impact of these demonstrations. However, if you are new to meditation and want to get involved, please don’t let that stop you.  Meditation and mindfulness are great for your personal life and health as well, so if this is the impetus for you to get started, then by all means get involved. Here are some established organizations already doing this work.

- The Global Coherence Initiative :( this non-profit organization launched by HeartMath, is a science-based co-creative project that takes a heart-centered approach to shift our global consciousness towards balance, peace and sustainability. They often hold large-scale events aimed at increasing global coherence.

- The Intention Experiment ( started by Lynne McTaggart, they hold many scientifically controlled, web-based experiments testing the power of intention to create change in the world.  They recently did their first experiment testing the healing intention sent to a human being.

- Deepak Chopra’s 21-Day Meditation Challenges – ( Deepak Chopra (and many times with Oprah Winfrey) hold 21-day meditation challenges on a variety of topics. Remember even in experiments that had no specific outcome for change, just having that many people congregating, radiating peace, created an effect.

So in this global village, ask yourself is a more peaceful, sustainable world something you would consider investing in?  Not with money, but in spiritual currency?  So please continue to contribute to the top down approaches, but also explore how you can create change through the unified field of consciousness. We need to get enough people to invest in the betterment of humanity en masse, and we need to do it quickly.
