The 7 Ultimate 'Stops' for Feeling Calmer

Did you know that you could control stress in most situations? Even though we cannot anticipate or prevent certain things from happening, you can certainly train your brain to react better to a bad situation. So, the feeling process is more of a choice than an impulse, which is a wonderful revelation, isn't it? You have probably had the same thought many times in life: 'I shouldn't have panicked or stressed so much about it'. However, now that you know that stress is your own response to a given situation, are you ready to change this? If you are, take a look at our list of 7 stops that will help you feel much calmer.

1. Stop Caring

We are not saying that you should stop caring altogether, but if you constantly feel stressed, this is an indication that you care too much. The only time you should care is in situations that you can influence. If you cannot change something, why spend your days frustrating and caring about it? Perhaps your close friends or family is in trouble. But at the end, the most important thing is to be able to help them, not how much you worry about their problems. Do you remember the times when you couldn't stop worrying about the exam or the essay you had to write? You had to start preparing, writing or looking for the best writing companies, but not just sitting and worrying!

2. Stop Breathing

Yes, this step surely sounds horrible, but we are actually very serious about not breathing. When you are feeling overwhelmed with negative emotions, holding your breath for few seconds can really help. By holding your breath, you are not only interrupting the body from getting oxygen, but you are interrupting every feeling in the same time.

3. Stop Remembering

When something good happens, you should keep that memory intact and get back to it whenever bad things occur. In this way, you will not only remember good things but also forget the bad ones.

4. Stop Pleasing Other People

Ever since we were little, our parent taught us to appreciate others and please them to show that we care. However, if this is the source for your bad mood, the answer is to simply stop pleasing. People will not admire you for running around after them. On the opposite, they will admire you for being a strong, calm person that gets things done. Be that person.

5. Stop Listening

This is quite the opposite from what you've been taught, but the truth it, sometimes not listening is the best thing you can do. Surely, you should be attentive to what others have to say since this can teach you a lot, but people often overwhelm you with irrelevant things, their own worries and fears. So, stop listening. Simply turn off every negative conversation.

6. Stop Forgiving

Forgiving is known to reduce stress, but did you know that it could have the reverse impact in certain situations? If you are constantly forgiving someone, you are actually leaving them room to make you feel stressed all over again. After all, it is why you got mad at the first place. When you find yourself in this situation, the solution is to stop forgiving.

7. Stop Trying too Hard

Great things are only achieved if you work hard and become irreplaceable. For this reason, we all try too hard to do things. The reality is, trying too hard can make you feel worried and chronically stressed. When this happens, you are doing a wrong thing or doing a right thing in the wrong way. When your effort is leading your nowhere, stop trying. Start working on these strategies to stay calm and get rid of the stress in your life. Stress is the worst thing for your health and well-being, which is why you need to take action now.
