The Soul and Ego Dichotomy - Finding Union Between the Soul and the Ego

The soul and ego can seem like adversaries, the ego playing the antagonist in our soul’s story. Often our problems are we simply aren’t listening to our own inner wisdom, so caught up in ego auto-drive. The ego isn’t a problem, it’s more or less the soul knows our true mission. Reconnecting, heeding soul wisdom, and practicing ultimately will bring about a reunion with the soul which can change the course of not only our life, but the world.

We all have a soul. Every single person. We just choose whether or not to engage with it and to listen to its wisdom. Many become disengaged and others lose the connection completely. We at times can even fool ourselves into believing we are acting soulfully or in accordance with our soul, but it is only our ego, a shroud of our self.

Ironically, the ego can act as an adversary to the soul and within the soul’s story, the self is the antagonist. We think of our stories, how we navigate this world, what we do, what we say and what happens to us and much of it has nothing to do with our soul and higher wisdom. The ego is reactionary, and why not when there is so much going on in the world. We need to protection not only survive, but thrive. While our egos set us into action, often it is the soul, which needs intercede and correct our course.

What’s wrong with letting our ego navigate?

Nothing is inherently wrong with the ego. It just operates based on our human need for survival. As humans we need food and shelter, so the ego drives our careers, tells us to make money. We require human contact, so it encourages us to engage in our superficial facade to find love and romance. It empowers our self-worth and confidence, in which sometimes leads us into competition. All of this is fine. Nothing wrong here as it feeds our bare needs, and yet as we want to grow and evolve, we need to depend on a higher wisdom.

Our souls know.

We may believe the fast-paced and high-paying job is what we want, and yet we cannot let go of feelings inadequacy and frustration. We desire the relationship; however, we still feel isolated and lonely. Our emotions are the gateway to our soul connection. Through our triggers we find our true path. The problem is we live in a society that for centuries downplayed the importance of emotions over rational thought and pragmatism. This is where we find ourselves today. Soulfully disconnected and spiritually dim.

True happiness comes when we align with our true mission, not our ego’s mission. As the old adage: money doesn’t buy happiness and love. It is so true. Success doesn’t improve the quality of our lives, often times all it does is complicate it.

Reconnection to the soul simplifies our lives when we learn our purpose. Sure, we can find success and love aligned with our soul, but that may look completely different to our ego’s version. Success may suggest may be healing our past, or connecting with nature. Embracing love can mean unconditional for all creatures not just a significant other.

Adversarial relationship.

The reconnection process can find the soul’s guidance and the self at odds. The ego may see the writing on the wall, yet fight it. That job just isn’t fulfilling us, causing us stress and sickness, and yet, we cannot bring ourselves to quit. The relationship we are in may lack the required intimacy, or even be abusive, but we cannot leave. It is common for the ego to fight the soul. Let’s face, we humans aren’t always good listeners to the soul’s wisdom. We only listen when forced into dramatic situations which alter the course of our lives and we have no choice.

Heeding the advice.

Alright! We throw our arms up in angst when the world around us falls apart. Nothing is working out in our favor. We are laboring ourselves to the bone and our relationships are breaking, and we dive within to listen often shocked as to what the advice of our soul speaks.

It’s not money we require, we need to give more. It’s not grasping onto love; we need to free it. It’s not blaming others for hardships; it is accepting our path and our lessons. It’s knowing we are here for a reason in this body and in this skin. It is having gratitude for what led us to this place.

When we arrive at this junction, when we are listening to our higher wisdom and not battling against it, do we start to live fully, peacefully and truly successfully.

For many of us, we have been trapped in our modern world headiness for a long time. It’s not that we have to shame the ego, or forgo it’s need for survival, it’s more-or-less finding the balance of working with our worldly needs as well as our soulful needs. We don’t need to quit our jobs and go live in a cave. We don’t have to give up physical intimacy for chastity. It is understanding the wisdom of our soul lessons and how they relate to modern life and vices.

It starts by questioning our vices and triggers. Why do we feel the need to be rich, or have a specific type of relationship? What is our relationship to money and sex? We can find these answers through meditation, art, physical movement and reconnection with nature. Oftentimes, a combination of a few or all. It gives us insight to what we need to transform our lives.

Once we realize that we really don’t need the things our ego tells us we do, healing begins and we feel liberated for what can feel like thousands of years of karma lifted. We are not the problems of the world, nor is anyone or anything else. It is purely the understanding as to why we are so affected.

Importance of the soul and ego reunion.

For too long humankind has been on ego auto-drive, in which we have created a chaotic world that will soon be unlivable. Change must occur. We must evolve. This reconnection to our souls, our higher wisdom, or even ancient selves will teach all of us how to navigate this new world. Our courses may seem different, but all are equally important. We owe it to one another to support our missions.
