The Value of Creating a Meditation and Relaxation Sanctuary in Your Backyard

After a stressful day at work, there’s hardly a better thing to do than meditate and relax. But why do it inside of your home when you can just as easily meditate and relax out on the fresh air? In fact, if you’re ready to make some changes in your backyard, you could turn it into a real zen space you can use whenever you need some rest. And here’s how to do it.

Hang lanterns on tree branches or patio

When creating your zen garden, you have to pay some extra attention to the kind of lighting you use. While most modern lighting options will cause you stress, there are some Asian-inspired lanterns that can help you create just the perfect ambiance for meditation and relaxation. You can use them to surround any areas you can meditate or relax in. It’s also important to mention that you can hang these on trees branches or your patio. If you want to add table lighting into your backyard, there’s no substitute for a real candle. There are also Asian-inspired candles with many different scents you can choose from.

Plant some moss

Another important feature of a zen garden is moss. It takes moss years and years to cover things such as rocks and trees, and it’s all about being patient with it. In fact, that’s one of the reasons why Japanese see something inherently virtuous about moss. What’s also great about this plant is that it grows in places other plants can’t reach. So, if any areas in your backyard have poor soil quality, you can use this plant to cover it. Just near those areas or simply add a DIY bed of grass.

Add a water feature

In order to be able you can truly relax and meditate in your backyard, it’s also a good idea to include a water feature into your backyard design. If all you want is a sound of water running in your backyard, adding a small fountain is something you just can’t go wrong with. This is especially the case because these things now come in all shapes and designs. On the other hand, if you prefer having a relaxing soak outside, you can . A swim spa won’t only help you relax but it also allows you to treat certain conditions with hydrotherapy.

Create a sand garden

In an authentic Zen garden, sand plays an extremely important role. In order to include it into your backyard, all you need to do is set aside an area and build a small tabletop sand garden. It can serve as a great centerpiece for your new backyard and make it easier for you to relax in it. Arranging some rocks in your sand garden is also a good idea. There’s a real meaning behind how you place your rocks, but if you just going for Asian influence, you can arrange them however you want. Use a rake to pull straight lines in the sand and wait for relaxation to begin.

Choose your seating option carefully

No matter if you enjoy meditating or just relaxing, you need to have a comfy seating option in your backyard. However, you also want to go for something that’s aesthetically pleasing and matches the overall design of your backyard. That’s why it’s recommended that you and include a couple of cushions for comfort. Also, it’s very important that you choose the right spot for your bench. We recommend opting for a spot that allows you to view your entire garden from a single perspective.

Do the 5 things we talked about earlier and there’s no doubt you’ll create your sanctuary for meditation and relaxation. Set aside an hour each day to take some fresh air and you’ll see stress and worry disappear.
