It is now the season of Hallows, Halloween, All Souls Day, there are many names for it but my favorite is an arcane Welsh word, Samhain (pronounced sow-win). It means “to grow quiet” and that, in fact is what this season is all about.
As the light fades from summer, we are inside more and, in our mind it is time to grow quiet, to become introspective. We have been busy preparing for the cold months, putting by stores, being sure there is fuel for heat, winterizing the automobile and taking care of the plants that can not take the frost. The longer darkness gives the aware person the opportunity for many avenues of growth, mental, physical and spiritual.
There are books to read and study, recipes to try, holidays to share with friends and family. And then there is the Nature connection. As the leaves have changed their show has been spectacular and now, as the trees are left bare, their limbs offer many beautiful living sculptures for your enjoyment. Plants have shifted into the winter foliage and new cold loving plants have made their debut. Colors change in the cold light, greens are greener and reds redder.
Anticipation of drawing in to work on recreation/renewing of all parts of your life, for later. Manifesting things, quilts, sweaters, new art,. new music, new stories all without the distraction of beach or travel. Yes, we may miss them while we are within but the joy of rediscovering them later will be all the better.
At this time we remember all who have passed, and we celebrate their involvement in our lives. The things that they gave to enrich us and the lessons they brought to us. We honor all our ancestors of good intent and, in some traditions, set the table and leave a place for those no longer here. This time of year calls us to realize that many things have offered their life force for our existence and sustenance. Plants for our clothing, shelter and food, animals for food and nutritional information for our biology, things that have died at our hands, most of which we are unaware. (things we step on and swat, crush or poison) to honor the least of this is to be consciously aware of you and the trail you blaze through life. Taking time to recognize, realize and offer gratitude for all of this is to raise your vibration and connect you to your Higher Calling. As the year grows darker and colder, we have time to embrace, in love and appreciation all of these.
The owls call is now heard, heralding the celebration season. We celebrate the loss of the light so that we can rejoice at it's return. We are tired from all of our activity of summer and it is time to rest. All requires rest, the world, its Nature and its people. Celebrate the quiet, the closeness and the opportunity. Learn to become one with the changes and use them to your best advantage. Here in the quiet, just like the seed in the quiet of the earth, you can nurture yourself and embrace you own potentiality to be ready for the next amazing thing the life will bring you.
To your best outcome and Highest good, Chessie
