Defining the word “tribe” is a personal and individualistic endeavor. The term has different meanings for different people.
Tribes can be defined by a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by a variety of common influences. Some of those commonalities may be:
Animals & Nature
Clubs (books, movies, travel, gourmet)
For us, a “tribe” is a group of like-minded people that will be there for us, loving and sharing, honoring our authenticity and being supportive of us and our dreams. It is a group of people not necessarily connected by blood, but by energy. It can develop into a group of friends that become like family.
Sometimes, we might look around and find ourselves in a tribe that doesn’t feel like a good fit. Do the people we are surrounded by truly match our authentic values and priorities? Have you ever been with a group of people with whom you simply couldn’t relate? Examples might be those who follow a different path than you such as, ways of eating (you are vegan, they like steak), an appreciation for different types of music (rock v opera), or belief in different religious or political ideas.
Finding ourselves in the wrong tribe does not have to be problematic. We can choose to find it fascinating…and an interesting experience on our journey. However, it may be time to move on, and find a tribe that embodies our inner truth and encourages our like-minded connections.
How do like-minded connections enrich our body, mind & spirit?
The body is enriched by the tribal energy and the leaning-in that expands the sensory perceptions offered by it. The mind is awakened by new ideas and thoughts that promote rewired neural networks. The inner spirit connects appreciation, gratitude, love & kindness with the tribe, which is not only mirrored back…but reflected outward. These tribal relationships are a perfect playground to practice emotional mastery.
When you’re choosing your tribe, take a look at how you feel when you’re with them. Do you feel inspired? Do you feel like the best version of yourself? Does your tribe encourage you to come back to your heart center?
“When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of “Me too!” be sure to cherish them. Because those weirdos are your tribe.”
- A.J. Downey, Cutter's Hope
Making sure our vibration is authentic will attract our tribe. Are we projecting ourselves in a way that makes us the kind of person that WE would like to meet? Have you heard that fun saying, “Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe”? We think that really sums it all up!
In each of our unique journeys, our tribes will change and vary with the different stages in our lives. Each of these stages provide unique opportunities to enrich our body, mind & spirit!
Being with the right tribe can help us achieve our life purpose…giving us a space where we can learn from the experiences of others, grow in self-awareness and practice empathy & kindness.
Time goes by so quickly…let’s honor ourselves by allowing time to connect with others that share like-minded interests and passions.
In addition, the time you spend with a group of people that are of service to others can create an echo of energy that inspires us in our relationships with every person we meet in our life journey!
These tribes build friendships that validate, confirm and expand on the things that are important to us. These trusted connections give support and guidance, reaffirm our moral compass and give us endless opportunities for communication and sharing.
The tribe can be a great force in our lives to reflect what we uniquely bring to the world.
