Many people hire coaches for motivation. I believe hiring a coach is a great resource to help keep you on track and accountable to reach your goals. I believe that learning self-coaching is most important to help guide yourself every day to be positive and to keep positive in your daily life. In order to have a mindset that is actually continually focused on a what IS working framework you must have your own inner motivation and guide yourself with your own inside voice and from your own inside guidance. This inner, positive, self-coaching is critical to your life success.
Visualize Your Goals
It is important to visualize your goals completed as you work on your self-coaching and your inner mindset. See yourself achieving what you desire. Use all of your senses and imagine what you will see, hear, smell, taste and touch once you reach their goal. Tap into your imagination daily and use your goals as a way to motivate yourself and use this form of self-coaching to keep yourself excited about your goals and inspired to keep moving forward and taking actions to move to more of what you do want. As you use your goals to keep you on into very small baby steps. By focusing on only tiny actions at a time you won’t get overwhelmed and won’t procrastinate. Small steps take away the feeling of overwhelm and allow you to move into action. This will help motivate you to accomplish what you desire and you will find yourself accomplishing more. The more you accomplish the better you will feel and the better you feel the more you will want to accomplish. This is the cycle of motivation. Once you take small steps to achieve results with your self-coaching you will create the momentum to keep you on the right track.
Most of us encounter a lot of negativity in our lives. Our own self-talk tends to be negative. We are surrounded with TV, newspapers and even social media posts that are negative. Friends, family and co-workers around us may be negative. We might even talk to others about things we have done or are going that are focused on our past mistakes or future fears. All of this negative thinking and negative talking can lead us to to lead negative lives because we are filled with negative self-chatter. Through self-coaching we can guide ourselves to block out the irrational negative inner voice and to focus on the positive inner voice instead. Focusing on our goals and desires and what we do want is the first way to stop the negative chatter. The next way is to keep asking the question, “What is working?” over and over again to get our brains to re-focus on the good things - the things we are grateful for and all the things that are going right. This critical question shifts negative thinking to positive responses and quickly.
Enjoy the Journey
Self-coaching is a fun and enjoyable process. Self-motivation is a journey to be enjoyed. It’s not about reaching the final destination and struggling and fighting to get to your goals. Every step of the way stop and breathe and smile and take in the entire process enjoying every step of the process along the way.
