What would our world be like if every one of us was to be granted supernatural faculties?

A first glance at such a scenario comes up with a seemingly indisputable picture of an ideal society living in peace and harmony, with every person having boundless freedom in all aspects of their lives, being able to fully satisfy their every wish and desire, undo all of their mistakes and social faux pas, change the past and create a definite future.

At further reflection, however, niggling doubts start to creep in if this is how the world would really turn out to be.

In a world in which everyone had magical powers, how would we be able even to determine that we are indeed in possession of such faculties? Would we be able to recognise that these powers really are special and be at all grateful for having been granted these gifts?

Would we be satisfied with enjoying our own miraculous strengths or would we be tormented with worries about whether or not our neighbor’s magical gifts are better than our own and, in our anxiety, totally forget about and neglect our own faculties?

Would we learn to coordinate our powers with one another or would we try to assert our powers over the others and spend all of our time and energy on undoing and negating their capabilities?

Would we walk around in constant dread of what others might possibly do to us with their superhuman faculties and thus put all of our strengths into defending ourselves against these threats, allowing the creative and constructive side of our capabilities to stagnate and decay?

Would we be able to learn how to deal with the limitless freedom of choice that our miraculous powers have bestowed upon us or would we so overwhelmed by these freedoms that we would deliberately suppress and silence our own magical faculties?

Would we celebrate and openly display our faculties or would we fear that others will either belittle our powers for being inferior to theirs or begrudge us our powers for being greater than theirs and consequently would we try to make our supernatural gifts as inconspicuous as possible?

The above considerations lead us to ask whether the world of people with magical powers would be at all distinguishable from our own?  Is it possible, given that the two realms are quite likely to be identical, that we actually are living in the magical world, that all of us really do possess miraculous gifts but they have been annulled by our fears, our insecurities, our jealousies, our rivalries, our worries, our paranoias?

What if, hidden under the grime of our egos, our doubts and our supposed limitations, these miraculous capabilities are just waiting to be discovered?

He says: “Writing for me is a spiritual activity of the highest degree. Writing gives me the conduit to a world that is unreachable by any other means, a world that is populated by Eternal Truths, Ineffable Questions and Infinite Beauty. It is my hope that these stories of mine will allow the reader to also catch a glimpse of this universe.”
