OM Times : SACREDspace : Studio Spotlight - West Palm Beach Yoga Day

In 2002 I would have never thought yoga would be a daily word in my vocabulary, becoming a teacher, nor organizing Florida’s largest free annual yoga event .

I was seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis, mostly from back issues.  My job was extremely stressful and I was overweight. Every few sessions, my chiropractor would recommend I try yoga. “Yoga is not for me”, I said “that not “real” exercise”. This was  coming from a place of no first hand experience and from labeling I heard…

The Symbol of the Bodhi-Tree

The Symbol of the Bodhi-Tree

The Bodhi-Tree meditation is based on the symbol of a tree, a banyan tree, which provides a multi-layered, rich, and complex symbol of the self and its journey towards enlightenment. Here we describe the symbol and its various levels of meaning:

The Bodhi-Tree or wisdom-tree is the world tree, and its roots drink deep of the waters of…

Health & Wellness Editorial : Dec 1/2 2011

The holiday season is generally thought of as a time of joy and love, but for many people, it’s a time of loneliness. Many live far from family and miss seeing their loved ones this time of year; others dread going to holiday parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations without a partner and end up staying home; it’s also common for people to feel emotional distance from the people they’re with, thus feeling lonely even if they’re in a room full of people. For those who feel lonely during the…

Health & Wellness : Dec 2011 - Giving is the Best Way to Receive

“You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”     ~Kahlil Gibran

Have you ever wondered why it feels good to give and help others out or if there are actual measurable benefits for the giver as well as the receiver?   Do we lose true altruism if all parties benefit?  Want to feel better? Live longer? Dodge a bad mood? Lift yourself up?  It’s easy. Go help someone else!

SACREDspace Highlight (Nov Mid) : Teaching Yoga by Amanda Miller

I stood in front of the group, preparing to teach my first lesson in yoga teacher training: just one simple movement.  Time slowed and my heart raced.  Could I really guide other people toward inner balance when I felt so unsettled?  I would be teaching the exact thing I needed to learn most, but maybe this was the only way to truly learn it.

A twenty-six year old struggling actor/writer, I had traveled alone from New York City to India to complete a month-long yoga teacher…

GREATness Begins with Being GRATEful

Have you every thought about what it means to give thanks or how it can actually benefit the body?  Many celebrate and give thanks in the month of November for the previous years’ harvest and bounty, while also giving thanks for what the future holds.  While some cultural traditions have taught children to indulge in food and drink in a way that did not honor the body, mind or spirit,…
