“15 Benefits of Mesquite Powder - A Super Food”

“A Natural Sweetener with Many Health Benefits”

Where it Grows - Mesquite trees grow in the US and South America deserts… and other dry areas around the world such as Australia, Africa, and Asia.

The Tree - The mesquite tree grows slowly and needs very little water… they have pods that are edible that can be made into lots of healthy food products.

Also the leaves, sap, and wood can also be used.

The wood is very hard and beautiful for making furniture, the wood is sold under the name -  “Texas Iron Wood”. The wood is also made into charcoal and is well known for barbecuing.

Mesquite trees are considered a pest by ranchers in grazing areas. But the tree has many great healing abilities… and it’s a drought resistant tree that provides food, this is something the world needs to think about.

Sweet Powder - Mesquite Pods are roasted and ground into a fine powder that is sweet and a great substitute for sugar.

Native Americans used mesquite pods as a very important food source. The Apache, Cahuilla, Pima, Yuma, Maricopa, Hopi, and Mohave tribes who lived near desert areas all used mesquite for food.

Nutty Taste - Mesquite powder has a nice nutty flavor and works well as a substitute for brown sugar.

Fat Free - Mesquite powder has little to no true fat and cholesterol.

Fiber - Mesquite powder contains lots of great soluble fiber which helps to prevent colon disease and cancer. It also provides a great environment for probiotic bacteria to grow thus boosting our immune system. Mesquite powder also improves motility of the gut and thus may help protect against polyp creation in the colon.

Low Glycemic Index - Mesquite powder has a low glycemic index because it contains soluble fiber that slows down absorption. Instead of taking 2 hours to absorb like regular sugar… it slows down to 4 to 6 hours thus preventing sugar spikes.

Diabetics - Mesquite powder is great for diabetics because it does not create blood sugar spikes. It contains a special form of fructose that does not require insulin. It’s interesting to note that ever since some of the Native American Tribes have switched to regular sugar and not eating mesquite powder… diabetes has increased.

Anti-Fungal - Mesquite powder also has some anti-fungal compounds that help to prevent and rid the body of fungal infections.

Migraines - Mesquite powder may also prevent headaches and migraines.

Roots, Bark, and Leaves - Mesquite bark and the roots make a nice tea that helps with diarrhea. Also if you boil mesquite roots it creates a gelatinous balm material that helps with wound healing and colic. Mesquite leaves can be made into eye drops for sore itchy eyes.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids - Mesquite powder contains fatty acids - omega 3 oils that help with cardiovascular health, strokes, and cancer.

Contains - Mesquite powder also contains zinc for boosting your immune system, lysine which is a great protein not found in other plant sources… and mesquite contains up to 30 percent protein.

Also contains calcium for strong bones, potassium for water regulation and lowering blood pressure, magnesium for enzyme production, and copper and iron for anemia.

Other Uses - Mesquite pods can be roasted and ground into flour and used for baking.

Normally adding other types of flour to mesquite flour to make nutty flavored cakes, cookies, crackers, pie crusts, breads, and pancakes… plus the roasted seeds can be used in chocolate, granola, chili, soups and stews.

Most people substitute 1/4 to 1/2 mesquite flour when baking.

Mesquite products can also be used to make jams, jellies, and wine… and the powder also works well in smoothies, yogurt, and in energy bars.

All mesquite pod products need to be roasted or cooked.

Mesquite powder also works great in coffee, tea, and other sweet beverages.
