“A Christmas Story of Suffering and Finding Peace”

Once there was a young man who was about 18 years old and he had fallen in love with a lovely young girl. But soon they both became trapped in a circle of friends who were doing drugs, and life went spiraling out of control. And the young man became fearful and moved away because he didn’t have a clear head and really didn’t know what he was doing. But all of that was about to change.

Where Ever We Go… There We Are - So the young man moved to another country and thought he had left all of his pains and problems behind. He started a new job and created new friends and thought all would be well. But then he started having bouts of anger, sadness, and depression. He would lash out at people for no reason at all, and this made him feel uncomfortable so he went to his friends and again started taking drugs to numb his feelings. Thus he fell into the same old trap of staying out late, doing drugs, getting in trouble, and feeling numb about life in general.

Feelings Need to Be Expressed - Finally it came to him that there was no escape from all those feelings that he bottled up inside and decide to cry, get angry, and feel the sadness. It took months of allow all of those feelings to bubble to the surface and be expressed. But he was also hooked on drugs, and knew that if he kept going down that road that he would not survive.

The Turning Point - So one rainy Christmas evening when the world seemed to be bearing down on his shoulders and he was alone, he broke down in tears, and cried and cried. He was hurting badly and didn’t know what to do, and who to turn too… and finally he got down in his knees and prayed to God.

Still Small Voice - Right away he heard a still small voice that came with a light that enveloped the whole room… and a voice that said: “Everything will be fine my child, have courage and let go of the drugs, there are more important things yet to come. Your purpose in life will be revealed soon you, you will play a very important role in helping others. Forgive yourself my son, let go of the past, and move forward from this day forward.” And those words calmed his heart and opened up his soul, and he found peace. And the next day with a clear head he decided to join the peace corps and help others. He traveled the world helping people and working with many doctors to heal the sick, bring fresh water to small communities, and he help people get back on their feet and settled, and helped them find ways to grow food and make a living. But he always spent time praying and talking to God every single day. There was not one day that went by that he did not pray, meditate, and listen to the answers that came from the still small voice.

Then 3 years later he moved home and decided to go to med school and become a doctor. College was not easy for him, but he new what his purpose was… he needed to help those who were suffering. And med school was very hard, and he did not graduate at the top of his class, but he did become one of the most loving and empathetic doctors who ever graduated from medical school.

Later he got married and had three kids, two boys and a girl, and he was a very successful doctor. And a couple years later him and his wife decided that once a year they would take 2 or 3 months to travel with their kids and go to third world countries to help those who were suffering. They wanted to make sure their kids knew about all the suffering in the world… and how they could make a difference.

One of their sons became a doctor, the other a priest, and the daughter decided to join the peace corps and follow in her dad’s foot steps. And they were all loving and kind and always had a great reverence for God, and expressed that every where they went by helping others.

And whenever the family would gather for special occasions and for the holidays… their father would talk about those faithful times that changed his life. And how God spoke to him through the still small voice on that rainy Christmas evening.

May we all listen to the still small voice within.

Many Blessings to Everyone
