It seems like flu season arrives earlier or, even, multiple times every year. With the different flu strains, there seems to be new ones coming about that cause more pain and suffering for those who have a weak immune system. In order to help fight off the flu, it's important to boost the immune system during the year, especially for the elderly and children as these are the groups of people who tend to see the harsh effects of the virus.

Yes, it is important for you to get a flu shot, but there is definitely more that you can do than just that. Below are five ideas to help arm your body with what it needs to stay strong.

Make Tea Your Friend

When you drink a lot of hot tea, you stimulate the cilia in the back of your nose with the steam from the beverage. When the cilia is stimulated, it helps to move germs out of the body faster. Adding lemon to the tea can also help to thin the mucus. Honey is an antibacterial that can help make the tea taste better than it would without any other ingredients. Not only can drinking tea help prevent you from getting the flu, but they can also help protect you against even worse illnesses such as cancer. Basically, it’s probably your best friend when it comes to keeping yourself on the healthy track.

Increase the Protein

If you aren't getting a lot of protein in your diet, then you might find that your immune system is weaker. It's easy to increase the amount of protein that your body gets during the day, though. You can do this by taking the opportunity to eat eggs in the morning at breakfast and including fish in your evening dinners. As the protein levels increase, you'll see that your body has more energy, which can help to cut down on the germs in the body.

Use Supplements Daily

There are numerous supplements that you can take to boost the immune system. You can get whole food supplement pills to take or powders that are mixed with water or juice. Supplements are ideal for those who might not be able to get a vaccine or for those who don't have a lot of time to focus on some of the natural ways to boost the immune system. However, you just have to understand that they do not and should not replace how many calories that you eat.

Sanitize Everything

You've probably heard that it's important to wash your hands with an antibacterial soap, but you should also make sure everything else is clean as well. Wipe down any surface that you touch during the day with antibacterial cloths. This will get rid of the germs that are present, which will mean that they don't enter the body to weaken the immune system. If that’s not the right choice for you, then consider using wipes, especially if they are the disinfectant type.

Juice Your Fruits & Veggies

If you're like many people, you don't have time to get the necessary vegetables and fruits in your diet that are needed to boost or maintain the immune system. Combine your favorite fruits and vegetables in a juicer so that you can drink to stay healthy. You want to add as many green items as possible as well as a lot of citrus as these will have a better result in protecting your immune system.
