Let's live for today, everyone has heard this term but how many of us fully understand what it means or who among us, tries to live by it daily.
The reason I wanted to write about this topic is because no matter how old we get if we do not let go of our past, we can not enjoy today or tomorrow. Our present-day anxieties, addictions, and whatever you feel may be a shortcoming is probably a result of our continuing to relive our past. We learn thru social media, our friends, 12 step programs, therapy, that we need to confront our past, to be able to heal. This is not a bad thing done properly. Many years ago, did a workshop based on John Bradshaw. I have a free pdf book written by John for you to download. The workshop was for healing your inner child. Understanding the terrible things that may have happened to you, or the terrible things you may have done to someone is a burden that most of us carry for life. Then coming to terms with it and releasing any anger or guilt associated with it. Unfortunately, this does not always happen and we either carry the shame of it or we become a victim of our past that never goes away.
If we do not forgive ourselves or others, we will never live for today. I do not want to oversimplify this but our past is just that. It can not be changed. Anything that happened a second ago can not be changed. Tomorrow is not here yet. What we do today will make up all our tomorrow's. Who wants our future to be full of the same burdens of our past.
I am a Science of Mind Minister and we learn that there is only one Mind or God or whatever you choose to believe and that we are in charge of our thoughts.
Ernest Holmes the founder of Science of Mind wrote: "We are dealing with a neutral, creative power, just as we would be in the case of electricity or any other natural force. It is on a higher plane; for it is the power of intelligence. As we think into this Universal Mind, our thought, in its externalization, will reach its own level, just as water will reach its own level by its own weight and without effort. This is in line with necessity; for the Universe, in order to be at all, must be Self-Existent. What is meant by the Self-Existence of the Universe? This means a Universe which is Its own reason for being; a Universe which exists by virtue of Itself, being All.
Each one of us is to-day the result of what has gone before, either consciously or unconsciously, no matter what kind of a condition he may be in. As soon as we realize this we shall be better off, because we shall see that since what we now are, or what we now have and experience, is the result of what we have thought; the answer to what we shall be is contained in what we now are; for we can change our thinking.
Man thinks and supposes that he lets go of the thoughts he thinks. But such is not the case; for thought becomes subjectified in Mind, like a seed planted in the soil; it stays there, unless neutralized, and decides the attraction and repulsion in the experience of the one thinking. There is a constant action on the subjective side of life; and it is this unconscious process which decides what is going to happen in the outer expression.
Whatever we think, act, believe in, feel, visualize, vision, image, read, talk about, in fact, all processes which affect or impress us at all, are going into the subjective state of our thought, which is our individualized use of Universal Mind. Whatever goes into the subjective state of thought tends to return again as some condition.
The big takeaway should be that what we believe is what we experience. We can change our thinking. Is your past that bad you are willing to ruin your future and possibly the future of others?
Let's live for today!

Hi There William.
Thank you for your submission. As is per protocol, every article submitted to OMtimes for publication must have a bio with 70 words and two links, that can be one social media and your website.
Your submission is a blog, not an article as mainly the writing is in the first person. For articles, the requirement is to be in the second person but preferably in the third person as it would help pe the audience to identify themselves with what you have been writing. If you consider reviewing your article I would consider revisiting it and editing it. Namaste.
OM Times Magazine is a Holistic Green eZine with a Spiritual Self-growth Perspective for the Conscious Community.
