When it comes to our imagination we can use our imagination in positive ways to make great movies, write books, create inventions, build hospitals and/or design machines to advance society. However, some will also use their imagination in negative ways to create bombs, manipulate people or produce fear. We as humans have an amazing gift called imagination and our well-being, confidence and achievements are greatly enhanced when our imagination is used properly and purposefully.
Aside from using your imagination for creative projects let's look at your imagination and its effects on an everyday level. When a person is experiencing stress, worry, anxiety or fear for example, they are, in such moments, misusing their imagination. They are using their imagination against themselves and do not realize it. They are unconsciously allowing their imagination to create negative "mental pictures" which then turns into stress, worry, anxiety or fear. So the question is; are you using your imagination in positive or negative ways? When you think about your future do you envision a good future or a bad one? Also, when you think about your children; do you feel safe and secure in their growing up, or, do you constantly worry about them? Your feelings will clearly show you how you are using your imagination. On a regular basis, do you feel excited or gloomy, confident or fearful, optimistic or pessimistic? Your emotional state regarding any aspect of your life is a direct reflection of your imagination. Take a close look at your mindset and see the connection between how you feel and the pictures in your mind. This awareness alone will help you to correct and adjust your thinking.
Another key practice is learning to ignore what you currently see in your life. If for example you are sick, regardless of your physical condition, imagine yourself healthy and strong. If you are broke, imagine yourself prospering in new ways. If you feel lonely, imagine yourself in a wonderful relationship or surrounded by good friends. Your subconscious mind gets activated and programmed by what you think about and imagine, and not only, by what is actually happening in your physical reality. Your subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between what you imagine and what is actually happening. So, it is a valuable practice to intentionally guide your mind toward your desires in order to feel better, and to change your life in greater ways.
Make it a regular practice to monitor the mental pictures you create in your mind, and imagine only the best for yourself. Take time to imagine the life and experiences you wish to have, and, see yourself, AS IF, your wishes have already happened. For example, imagine yourself feeling good, strong and healthy. Imagine you are on your dream vacation or doing a job that you enjoy. Imagine your children healthy and happy and having a wonderful relationship with you. Let your imagination run free and hold great visions for yourself and the world around you.
You may think this is just fantasy or wishful thinking, understand however, that imagination is key to communicating with your subconscious mind and reprogramming it in positive ways. And, from a positive position you begin to shift your life reality accordingly. If for example you are sick, but instead, you imagine, think about, feel and believe you are healthy then you will activate the natural healing forces within you. If you give in to your sickness by depressing yourself you will then slow down or weaken your healing forces. The use of positive visioning will work for you in healing, confidence, self-esteem, fears, success and all other areas of your life.
So whenever (or if ever) you find yourself feeling unhappy, anxious, worried or upset, stop yourself in that moment and remind yourself that you are currently misusing your imagination. And, you must make a conscious effort to move your mind toward something healthier and happier. And, don't say that you cannot do this, because, you are the only one in control of what you think about or imagine. No one can do that for you. The only reason that you feel you cannot control your mind is because you lack practice and that's all.
It is very important to see the connection between what you imagine and how you feel. Once you truly understand that negative imagination will create negative life situations and positive imagination will create positive life situations, then, you will naturally become more alert and in control of your mind, and therefore, more in control of your life, well-being and future as a whole.
To close, make it a regular practice to monitor how you feel. If you're feeling good, then wonderful, you are in positive imagination. And, if you're not feeling good then you are in negative imagination. Therefore, you must immediately redirect your mind by focusing on and imagining a better scenario for yourself. This simple practice will do wonders for you, and you will pleasantly discover that you are far more powerful than you realize.
